Biggest sports stories of 2012? - DaSaintFan - 12-24-2012 05:01 PM

Okay, they've started their "biggest sports" stories of the year articles in print and on radio sports shows, so what would you put as your top 5 sports stories of the year?

1) Penn State/Sandusky - The only thing that Penn State can be thankful for is that with all the realignment talk in the college world, that the Sandusky story fell off the front pages.

2) Lance Armstrong - Of course, the cycling world isn't without fault in this, but Lance's fall from grace has to be (IMO), the 2nd biggest story in the sports world.

3) Saints/BountyGate - With the recent decision by Tagliabue.. this story was an even bigger black eye to the NFL than even I think they anticipated.

4) Michael Phelps becoming the most decorated Olympian of all time, with 22 medals (18 of which were gold).

5) Realignment - Obviously this one has to go in the top 5.. considering how much of a problem this has been for schools, fans, programs, everything behind the realignment fiascos.

Just missed (to me): Replacement refs, Usain Bolt, Manning's Denver comeback, the infamous Juan Pablo car explosion at Daytona... oh yeah, and the one I really wanted to put on here... the Badminton "scandal" at the Olympics.

You mean Miami's Nevin Shapiro mess didn't even make the list of the stories that just missed?

I'd think a man supplying hookers to athletes is almost as big a story as the child molestation issue. It beats the heck out of the Lance Armstrong story IMO...
