Does CUSA help market everyones programs? - OwlFamily - 01-23-2013 03:11 PM

Saw this on an FAU site.

"C-USA also plans to help FAU fill those seats by launching a marketing campaign that will feature print, electronic and internet advertising, along with what C-USA commissioner Britton Banowsky termed "very aggressive social marketing." Look for those campaigns to begin in late spring."

Does CUSA do this for all the schools or is this just for the newbies? Im thrilled with any help we can get, and dont recall the SBC doing anything like this.

I don't know whether or not there's a formal effort like that at any other school. But in general, I think CUSA has been pretty helpful in this area. Being in CUSA 1.0 (an elite basketball conference by any standard) got us all sorts of hoops exposure, and ticket sales, that we would not have had otherwise. Even in 2011, getting the FB championship on ABC was good exposure. The damned BCS championship wasn't even on broadcast TV.

I find them pretty aggressive, but maybe that's just my perspective as a bitter old manwho dislikes consumer electronics.

I've never found C-USA to be real helpful in marketing ECU, but maybe I wasn't looking for it.

I guess it depends on the school. The new guys situation would be akin to when our last round of expansion happened.

I'd think Marshall, UCF, Tulsa, SMU, UTEP, and Rice fans would be able to compare.

"Sportsmanship lives here" and having a dozen kids saying "We play for you" doesn't do it for you?

Seriously, I don't recall any marketing of Memphis' program by CUSA unless they are referring to the series of ads mentioned above. There was a video that the conference did when the league formed its current configuration that was very good.

I don't think that marketing is the conference office's forte. I don't remember the details, but we the conference did the marketing for one of the conference basketball tourneys that we hosted and it didn't go well. I've got a lot of really good things to say about CUSA but marketing isn't one of them.

Does anyone remember the video that CUSA put together immediately after that round of expansion?

It started with something like "From the coast of Carolina to the plains of........We have....(and went on to mention each programs mascot in a catchy way)" I know all that sounds sketchy, but it's been a long time ago and that spot was really good. I couldn't find it anywhere.

I seriously doubt CUSA will help with the above. Maybe the will retweet your tweets. They didn't help UCF if at all (except for sportsmanship commercials)

I bet Banowsky is talking sportsmanship commercials that play during CUSA games.. which sorta preaching to choir since audience is ALREADY watching a CUSA game.

Good luck

Not sure if this is what they are doing, but come to think of it, marketing the new teams and C-USA in the new cities would be an excellent use for some of the exit fee money.
