OT sort of. ULL investing big in athletic facilities. - MinerInWisconsin - 03-21-2013 04:39 PM

Upgrading and expanding football stadium and more. I'm betting they are positioning themselves for a move to C-USA and I say go get them.

excerpt:

"Renovation of Cajun Field
• Five construction phases that could ultimately raise capacity to over 65,000.

• The first step of the first phase is to add 5,900 seats to south end zone, allowing for the remaining expansion to be done without losing use of Cajun Field or playing a season with a diminished capacity.

• The main phase will feature the addition of a structure on the west side that will include 23,500 square feet of office space for the athletic administration, 1,200 club seats, 128 loge seats and 37 box suites. It will replace the current press box and include either changes or replacement of the current upper deck seating.

• Also included in the main phase is an upper level of seating on the east sideline, adding 9,546 seats that will bring capacity to 50,000."

So...team that averages 24K is building a 50K stadium? LOL.

Take my word for it. Don't pick up ULL. It's like bringing ECU back, except with no history of success.

The hell with history. Last two seasons they and Arkansas State have been by far the best football teams in the Sun Belt. What has UNT won lately?

Best food.....as good as New Orleans just not the same quantity. Great game day experience even when they were horrible. Good future. I like them better than, ummm, some of the folks that were already invited.

wouldn't be talking, usm fan...unt has NEVER gone 0-12...even with a high school head coach at the reins...

How are they planning to fund all of that? My impression is that the whole U of L system is strapped for cash right now. I think people at UNO will flip out if ULL expands their stadium. I don't even want to think about how LA Tech would react.

And man... it just sucks that these people are thinking big but USM won't.

RE: OT sort of. ULL investing big in athletic facilities. - geauxcajuns - 03-21-2013 07:31 PM

Look, we are completely revamping our entire campus as well as the athletic facilities. Seems to me that some UNT posters are just hating on the Cajuns because our stadium will upstage Apogee. The hit on our attendance numbers is a weak attempt at smack talk. We averaged 24k with two monsoon games and a Tuesday night game. Even with crappy weather and a Tuesday night game we still averaged over 22k and UNT only managed 18,929k. In a metro area of over what 6 million?

RE: OT sort of. ULL investing big in athletic facilities. - UTEPDallas - 03-21-2013 07:33 PM

Give the Cajuns C-USA exposure and revenue and they'll be worth the addition.

upstage apogee?

03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao

there are a few new stadiums in the pipeline or that are new that upstage apogee, such as the new bobcat stadium, but the new cajun field is not one of them.

03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao03-lmfao

apogee=unique, modern and completely sustainable
new cajun=cheap copy of Oklahoma state and minnesota

Private donations are already in hand for Phase I, roughly $20 million. Construction will start soon after the Spring Game on April 20th.

Phase II has a little less than half of the funds needed to begin construction. Phase II is planned to start within 3 years. Acadiana has an $8 billion dollar annual economy, so money is there if approached properly.

USM has 18 winning seasons out of the last 19 seasons. USM has been to bowl games 14 out of the last 16 years. USM was ranked in the top 20 2 years ago. USM football hasn't had back to back losing seasons since 1933-34. Believe me, you don't want to go where you are trying to go, but go ahead and compare UNT football to those numbers.

btw, i totally respect usm and am extremely glad to be in a conference with y'all, no sarcasm. but you were clearly being the d!ck first.

If y'all get that thing built, Tech, NT, and even USM are probably toast. I don't think anyone at Tech or USM realizes the potential that exists in that sort of thing. They're mentally stuck in a 20,000-30,000 fan fishbowl that they don't even realize THEY made and control. They don't think about visiting fans or destination marketing. At Tech they think about dominating you, and USM fans are either resigned to the status quo or trapped in 1984 and think we can play our way into the Big XII.

ULL should build that monster, fill it up with A&M and Nebraska fans, and then send them off to New Orleans after the game. It's begging for a bowl game, too. It won't take you long to outgrow the SBC on the track I suggest... really, CUSA won't be big enough for you.

Between the coup-d'etat that we saw in the formation of the U of L system and this, I think ULL is on a real upward trajectory. I have grown from adolescence to late middle age waiting for USM to do these things. You are building the evil empire I wanted to build in Hattiesburg.

Wow... I'm pretty sure we spent more than that on our stadium expansion, and we're stuck at 36,000. Read my last post above if you care to know more. Between this and the Jackson Non-Eagle Dome, I'm pretty embarrassed.

Yup, no 0 win seasons. Kinda reminding me of Cowboy fans. That's not a good thing.

Since 1994-present UNT has gone 77-145 for a 34.7% winning percentage. So his lame smack talk doesn't hold much weight.

Before you bring up the Cajuns winning percentage here it is. We have gome 85-135 since 1994 for a 38.6% winning percentage. So we are by no means world beaters, but have had more success than UNT.
