Bubbba is turning out to be a GREAT choice as the Carolina AD.

Bubba wants to compete at the highest level and that takes money. UNC is one of the most recognized brands in the country and it's time to move above 100 mil. There is no reason why this can't happen in the next 5 years.

Hmm...I wonder where he could do that without banging on the boosters for cash as often...if only there was another conference that paid more than the ACC that UNC could join...

Yeah, like the SEC.

It's a very odd time for that kind of press release don't you think guys.?

Could it be a conference that has funny names for it's divisions?

What's odd about it?

Does every ACC member need to check how any goal that they set for their program looks through the conference reallignment lens before they make it public?

Or better yet the B1g

No, but they usually set their goals at the start of the fiscal year. I would think a release date on that kind of info would come in the mid-Summer, not in the middle of April and not when network contracts were being finalized. Gee, why haven't the other schools set their goals in April? I said odd time, not odd announcement.

He mentioned it while addressing the Raleigh sports council. I don't see any benefit in waiting til the new fiscal year to announce a goal like this.

This is a trial balloon to see how alumni & fans react.

Will they suggest to the AD a move to the B1G?

UNC isn't going anywhere unless they absolutely have to. Getting up to 100 million in revenue can be achieve easily achieved in the next 5 years without leaving the ACC.

RE: UNC AD wants to boost athletic revenue by 40%! - He1nousOne - 04-15-2013 09:44 PM

The answer is "Any of the Above". UNC might be able to do this under their current circumstances. I certainly am in no position to state that they couldn't. It does seem like an uphill battle in that regard but who knows.

Certainly one could say that there are other conferences that could definitely help in the money aspect. Money isn't everything though to UNC. They want to make that money without having to sacrifice too much so I can certainly understand the UNC guys speaking up about UNC doing this from within the ACC.

You have to admit though that a statement like this is only going to add fuel to the fire of realignment talks and discussions.

This was a very big statement to be made by a man high up in what might be the University with the biggest spotlight on it right now. A very important statement indeed.

There is very little that doesn't add fuel to the fire of reallignment talks.

let's see, the dean dome has no luxury or premium seating & final phase of kenan stadium renovation just for starters. for those who don't know UNC didn't have any luxury seating revenue until 2 years ago & hasn't even come close to maximizing it's revenue streams

Wow!! An Athletic Director wants to make more money for his department. This must mean UNC is jumping ship, right????

Very true but come on...its the UNC AD, saying that he wants to see UNC bringing in 40% more in athletic revenue. That is not chump change or small increases in television contracts. That perhaps is THE biggest statement put out by a University AD or President lately and it absolutely has some affect on realignment talks.

I will admit that we all tend to make more out of statements than what is likely there but not this time. For him to actually state 40% more, that is very bold.

Go find a statement where an AD made as bold of a statement as this as to exactly how much more he plans on bringing into the Athletic Department.

Hurry!

And no this doesn't mean they are jumping ship, it means they are flexing their muscles because they know Everyone has their eyes on UNC right now.

You can drop your pom pom's. Folks are actually being quite level headed and mature about this in this thread so far. Please don't change that.
