New Bowl In Little Rock? - Attackcoog - 05-17-2013 12:35 AM

The Sun Belt currently has deals with the New Orleans Bowl and GoDaddy.

A third is likely to come in the form of a new game being worked on in Little Rock, Ark., with Conference USA providing a possible opponent.

I think it is a great idea and I imagine that Stephens Inc., the Waltons, Tyson, JB Hunt, etc. would get behind it. Plenty of teams within driving distance in the SBC, CUSA and AAC.

Why a second bowl with CUSA? Why not a bowl with the AAC? Aren't they scrambling to get bowls?

CUSA likely will lose 1 to 3 bowls, some to the AAC. This will replace one of the lost.

Right. The AAC will get its pick of the litter first.

Wont matter much by that point. All the bowls left will more or less be the same.

Nearby Hot Springs can be fun in the summer for families with small children, but I can't imagine much going on in Little Rock for college kids and alumni in December or January.

If they can get a major sponsor that would be willing to put up enough money to overcome the fact that Little Rock is not going to be an enticing place to play, then they might get this idea off the ground. The idea of a Bowl in Little Rock though does not strike me as one that is going to get folks immediately excited.

NOT FAIR..... C-USA should not lose a bowl to the AAC.

Birmingham, Shreveport, Detroit, Boise... no reason Little Rock can't have a bow. First, it is not exactly a northern city. If fans can handle Memphis or Shreveport in December then they can handle LR. Second, what is it that any of you plan to do at a bowl game that you can't do in LR? THe city has a very strong local bar and restaurant community and a stadium that is set up very well for tailgating with lots of safe parking.

It isn't really working out the way the AAC fans hoped it would. Reports out of CUSA spring meetings suggest six primaries and two secondaries for CUSA, which is close to what the conference has now and therefore doesn't recommend a lot of change. I've reported this before in CUSA and AAC forums, but most of CUSA's bowl partners have long term relationships with the conference and all except Hawaii are in the conference's footprint. This coupled with the AAC's apparent fluidity means a lot of CUSA's bowl partners are staying put in this bowl cycle. The two most likely to move on are New Orleans and Liberty. The former wants more from CUSA than they are likely to get while the latter is convinced it will have the AAC's no 1 team (CUSA's no 1 is likely to move to the conference-owned Heart of Dallas Bowl against B1G no 7).

Actually, the Liberty is looking at B12/SEC now according to recent reports
