I think it is a product of the divorce crisis. So many younger voters were raised in single parent households with their mothers and fathers at most were a weekend visit. They learned to think like their mothers.

That's why they started to use the word "progressive" more than liberal. Had to get men who took offense of being called liberal. It worked.
Now if only conservatives would find a better word that didn't scream curmudgeon.

That's why I said "liberal" and not "democrat". Two different terms. The blue color union guys are voting their pocketbook and couldn't care less about 99% of the crap liberals peddle. We go to a bar sometimes that a bunch of shipyard union guys frequent and I usually agree with them.

Those are certainly important elements, but if you go back in time, you'll see Marx appealing to women to spread his nonsense. Shortly thereafter what is referred to as feminism's first wave hit the US. Additionally, Freud and most of psychotherapy became popular in Europe and the US, and it too has much overlap with feminist doctrine.
That all of these things share so much material makes it difficult to identify cause and effect, so the "why" of the OP isn't readily answered from that perspective. However, they "why" is addressed in that you find the two together b/c they have always been together. Much of that is b/c of what drives women: a desire for safety and control. Leftist ideologies (intentionally) appeal to that craving.
Feminist women have then influenced the culture greatly, largely through assuming educational positions, and by neglecting the proper rearing of their children.

Glad you pointed at the blue collar union Dems. Those f*ckers used to be ruthless. If you showed up at a US Steel plant in the Pittsburgh area with a Mazda, better be sure that car will be busted up w/ the owner pounded and stomped. I also know a ton of truck drivers that would whip that ass if you f*cked w/ the loads on the tailor.

They're brainless trendies. The way the dress, act, and the way they feel about all things political stems from the same thing -- what they're told is cool.
This way of (not) thinking in turn makes them unsuccessful in their "careers" (if you want to call it that), and it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy of becoming whores to the state.

Most are have been brought up in a household without the presence of a male figure. Wow now that transcends into another demographic that votes entirely Democratic.
But I digress, it is the break down of the family. No strong influences of a male. Probably never played any organized sports at any high level either. The guys are products of only having female teachers and have not idea of how to think as being self sufficient.

Could it all be that the crux of being liberal (or at least appearing to be) is to appear compassionate? You have to appeal to the emotions of the base to be electable. It's the exact opposite for a conservative. Publicly showing an ounce of compassion will guarantee that you won't make it out of the primaries.
