Because of the stupid rule that first year teams can't get bowl games unless there isn't enough bowl eligible teams, and there always are. If ODU went 9-3, I'm sure there would be an outcry.

If there was, it wouldn't be a big one and it wouldn't be warranted. We all knew the rules. Second-year transitionals need a lot of things to fall in place to earn a bowl bid. Arbitrary? Possibly, but it is what it is.
