I'd technically add Illinois as well since they have an interim coach right now.

Yeah, I knew I forgot one of the biggies... Thanks.

Oh, and it's good if anyone wants to speculate on who will fill the openings...

RE: Coaching Carousel - DavidSt - 10-12-2015 10:43 PM

Charlie Strong could still be fired at Texas, and Bret belimia could be fired at Arkansas.

1 thing interesting about this part- right now there are no guys out there like how Urban Meyer was with ESPN that one year. One thing that is pretty interesting is ESPN and the others have gone more towards ex players as being analysts vs ex coaches. So think coaches getting hired would be more the hot G5 type of guys vs retreads.

Chip Kelly will be the target at USC. Regardless of whether Haden stays, they need to hire a guy that isn't from the Pete Carroll coaching tree. They need to start fresh with no ties what so ever to that regime. Jack Del Rio and Jeff Fisher, both USC alums, appear to be entrenched at their respective franchises, so it'd be a shock to see them consider the position. In would be a great sight to see Ed Orgeron get a real opportunity at USC.

Orgeron is from the Carroll coaching tree. he was with Carroll from 2000-04.

"COULD" does not come close to meaning "Will." And that's why I did not list either of those two, though doubtless their seats are "hot."

Flood at Rutgers is at least in serious trouble.
It is generally accepted that London at Virginia is done.
Beamer at Virginia Tech is at least of advanced age and there is speculation as to whether he will retire or not. Likewise O'Leary at UCF.

The "Coaches on the Hot Seat" thread is probably better to discuss the speculative cases. This thread is meant to be more along the lines of "Here's what is definitely open..." or at least "There is a strong likelihood of this job being open."

yeah. Having said that, I think Orgeron would be real good for USC- but I don't think he'd come back. I could see him going to the other USC to replace Spurrier.

Tell ya what---that Memphis coach'd sure look good in any number of those job openings. And there will surely be more to come....

RE: Coaching Carousel - ChrisLords - 10-12-2015 11:28 PM

If South Carolina continues their recent hiring trend, I could see them going after Jim Tressel.

Not Tressel. Mack Brown.

Not Tressel. Not Brown. Bobby Bowden.

You have got to think outside the box.

When is Tressel's show cause up?

Let's go way outside the box - Lou Holtz. He's 8 years younger than Bobby Bowden.

RE: Coaching Carousel - Wedge - 10-13-2015 12:00 AM

With four P5 teams already out there searching for next year's head coach, will that motivate some other ADs to go ahead and fire/retire/resign a head coach on the hot seat now, so that they can join the pack and also get a head start on their own searches?

Some of the teams listed by the OP would be possibilities to do that. UVa, VT, Rutgers, Purdue. Miami, if they quickly lose two or three more.

Tressel is NOT going to leave being the President of Youngstown State(a job he pursued and got) to go back into Coaching.
