Quote:The report details revenues and expenses generated from July 1, 2014. through June 30, 2015 – dates that coincide with Rutgers first year as a Big Ten member. Football earned $26.7 million while spending $18.6 million.

The size of the profit is uncharted territory for Rutgers football, which historically has relied on direct institutional support to balance its budget – with only two exceptions since 2007.
As a member of the American Athletic Conference, Rutgers turned a $2 million profit in Fiscal Year 2014 that was its high-water mark. The $8.1 million represents a 305 percent increase.

The other time was in fiscal 2012, when Rutgers reported a profit of about $61,000.

As Rutgers went 8-5, defeated college football's all-time winningest program (Michigan) and won the Quick Lane Bowl in its Big Ten debut, it produced $11.6 million in ticket sales, up from $8.7 million in the previous year.

Perhaps most notably, the increase in ticket sales is despite Rutgers playing six home games during the 2014 season as compared with seven in 2013.

Rutgers also experienced a jump of about $600,000 to $2.1 million in program, novelty, parking and concession joint sales, as well as the increasing benefits of an 11-year, $65 million marketing partnership with IMG College.

Contributions skyrocketed from slightly more than $1 million to $4.4 million, mostly as a result of instituting mandatory seat gifts that fans must pay along with purchasing season tickets. The Big Ten made a $9.4 million membership payout to Rutgers, with $2.9 million directed toward football.

On the expenses side of the ledger, Rutgers football spent $1.1 million on then-head coach Kyle Flood’s salary, $2.5 million of assistant coaches salaries, $618,095 on recruiting and $1.8 million on travel.
