Can't really agree with a lot in this article. There is a poll question if Rice is the worst job in CUSA. I voted no.

What job is more difficult? I think Charlotte would have more appeal. Obviously UTSA, UNT, FAU, FIU, ODU does, so what is worse?

Yeah, I agree with the article. Just as Air Force is the hardest job in the MW.
Academic requirements really limit who you can recruit and being a G5 school makes it even harder. GA Tech has high requirements which is why most schools that have high academic standards usually play option football.
What the Rice coach really needs is support from the school for football. In addition, Rice football needs to broaden out nationwide for recruiting get a few of those other players that can make the academic standard and overlooked, but that comes back around to having the school support football more with a bigger recruiting budget.

Rice simply does not recruit student-athletes whom, by their established metrics, possess neither the potential nor aptitude to graduate THEIR curriculum. Nothing wrong with that. It does make it more difficult to recruit, but they are doing fine. Rice also does not admit non-qualifiers. I don't know if those are the "exceptions" of which you speak or not.
Wait a minute. Teams run the triple option because there are no qualified kids who can catch or throw a football??? Nebraska ran the triple option... WVU ran the Veer. Ohio ran the triple option. Doesn't GaSo run the option?

There aren't as many available QB's and WR's to compete at the high FBS level who meet stringent academic standards.

Remember this article is about Rice and CUSA. Rice has the highest academic standards in CUSA. Finding athletes that meet those academic standards and talented enough for FBS football makes them the hardest in CUSA to coach football. Sure Rice gets a good season now and then but it is not consistent. Finding 85 and even 100 players for college football like Rice is harder than any other sport Rice sponsors.
