The Butt Hurt is Real - Curtisc83 - 02-18-2017 02:35 AM

After the news broke we are going FBS I stayed quite just to see how folks would react on CSN, AGS and Coastalfans. It's clear to me based off of posters opinions is going FBS had nothing to do with sports and more to do with us being a large Christian University. The AGS thread got so bad it was deleted, the CSN was bad enough it was locked. The butt hurt is real. I'm happy that some posters on the forums I mentioned were supportive of us. Its comforting to know they exist.

In the end I'm happy the NCAA gave us the waiver it was the right thing to do. Let me put it into perspective on why it was. Last time a Private school went FBS was 1978 and that was really because D1 split into FCS and FBS and the privates landed on the FBS side. No private has ever gone from FCS to FBS till we got the waiver this week. So folks can be upset or whatever but there clearly was no path for LU to go FBS.

As has been stated on this forum for years, LU's only option was to be indy. Most of us believed it was only going to be accomplished via the courts with litigation. Everyone was surprised with the speed and ease of the waiver.

I'll admit here I was wrong in my assertion that JFJr had overstepped his political involvement as to deny LU FBS membership. Seems like the reality of LU being FBS ready, and LU's strong case for meeting the membership criteria, overrode admin rhetoric and political involvement. I am pleased LU received the FB waiver. I look forward to watching the FB team play quality P5 and G5 teams on the road and at Williams Stadium. I'll let others decry and defend LU stances and political/social/moral positions as I have defended them in the past. I share the excitement of LU becoming FBS as what happens between lines and on the field is my interest.

Jesus said that we would be persecuted.

I looked for a thread on AGS, I didn't realize that it got deleted.

Yeah dude when the news broke the thread on AGS got started. The AGS one was actually the worse thread I've read yet. Maybe it was caused by a combination of hate for LU and us moving to a higher football classification others thought they deserved more.

What is AGS?

I LOVE to see all the whining and complaining. I am eating it up like candy on Halloween. If it wasn't such great news for Liberty then I'd probably be avoiding the negativity but they can't bring me down. I wish I wasn't traveling for the weekend and was able to respond more but alas, life and Liberty are not cooperating with my schedule.

Regarding Butt Hurt, it has been amazing some much buzz has been generated on the board regarding LU's waiver and entry into FBS. I thought it would have subsided after 4 days but it is still very strong. One still has to wade through the usual low brow comments but it is very encouraging the number of rational and logical posters who are okay and supportive of the decision.

It's a shame there is so much angst and ill will toward Liberty. It is unfortunate that people dislike LU so much.

But, I suppose it is good publicity to be talked about so much.

How I view it is that you guys are ready to move. Many schools are watering down the FBS with half empty run down facilities. You guys have the fan support, the money and the want to move up. No one knows how this will pan out but at least y'all are giving it a go. Gill better start winning though or he is going to be gone quick. I am excited as my wife is an alumni and I plan to get a masters from Liberty in the not so distance future.

Welcome to the Liberty family and good luck with your masters degree!

I would hate to change coaches in the midst of moving to FBS but Gill needs to perform well this year. We can't afford to move up limping. We need to be perceived as a quality opponent so that teams schedule us to boost their SOS. I really hope Gill succeeds with us. He is a great guy and I love what he says. I just don't know if he is cut out for a head football coach position.

Unrelated note: I love how hypocritical many haters are. There is the obvious ones who say things like, "Liberty is full of hate and intolerant so I will hate and not tolerate them." Then there are the sneakier hypocrites who say, "Liberty has so much money they will outspend everyone and win at everything... Liberty never wins anything so why should we want them in our conference..." The butt hurt is very real and it is glorious.

Congrats guys, I will be cheering you on for sure.

Now that we are in the Independent FBS section for all to see I'm sure it will rub some folks the wrong way.

Congrats on the move. I became a fan since you guys came to
Morgantown in 09. Most gracious fans I've ever encountered. A lot of ignorance on there part regarding the school. A lot of it still comes from the late Dr Falwell. If you see a lot of their ammo comes from stuff before 2008. Textbooks, rules, the atmosphere, etc. Liberty today is more progressive than ever before. Rules regarding LGBT is laxed and reading your other board creation isn't required anymore and a lot of the rules aren't there anymore as well. They'll ignore it and still find stuff from 2007 to hate on you guys. I read an article In the chronicle that fits perfectly regarding this. Ignored schools like BYU, Pepperdine, Charleston Southern, Baylor regarding LGBT and focused on LU and Falwells LGBTs policies. Same with the gun policy. They ignored University Of Texas open carry policy and focused on LU and Falwell. A lot of it is because of the hate they still have for the Late Dr Falwell., Then there is the money too. You guys are going to have p5 facilities.

Thank you so much!

You guys have got to get over yourself. I will speak for myself for a moment, but I have absolutely no issue at all with congratulating you guys on pulling this off. I wish our admin could get their act together and make something happen for us.

Now, there are a few schools who are not playing football at the level they should be, but as long as you are putting plenty of butts in your seats, that is absolutely the main thing. It's not fair to the players you recruit nor the players we bring to JMU to have them playing so many games in stadiums with 4K - 5K attending. No different than a player recruited by Alabama having to travel to a game where less than 35K butts in the seats. Can you see Alabama going to Marshall to play a game where they average 27K? It is just not right. I'm not talking about Marshall coming to Bama, I'm specifically speaking of Bama going to Huntington.

I actually have more issue with CCU than LU, simply because they have not proven they can bring in enough fans to make a "Duke" or a "Wake" or even a "East Carolina" feel like they should sign a deal that would have their team travel to Conway, SC. Go enjoy playing Big Boy Football but knock that chip off before you go, it's not becoming.

Thank you for the congratulations! However, I don't know why having a chip on our shoulder is bad or unwarranted. We've been hearing for years now how nobody wants us in their conference, how we don't deserve FBS, how bigoted and unevolved our thinking is, and how unqualified of a "university" our diploma mill sham of an education is. How exactly are we supposed to feel? Granted there are few who treat us with respect and to those we are grateful.

Ignore it, you will never please everyone especially bringing this to a public forum is not in your best interest. If you want to talk about it behind closed doors then do it, but put your energy to where it will help not hurt is always the best solution. Ask yourself what "he" would do and try your best to follow it.
