FDA reverses course on MDMA (Ecstasy), "breakthrough" therapy - georgia_tech_swagger - 08-28-2017 08:36 PM

http://reason.com/blog/2017/08/28/fda-deems-mdma-banned-since-1985-a-break

Quote:Two decades after the Drug Enforcement Administration banned MDMA, classifying it as a dangerous intoxicant with no accepted medical use, the Food and Drug Administration has deemed the same substance a "breakthrough therapy." The designation should speed MDMA's approval as a prescription medicine, which could happen as soon as 2021.

That remarkable turnaround is thanks to the hard work of a plucky and persistent organization known as the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS), founded the year after the DEA banned MDMA. Last fall the FDA gave MAPS a green light for Phase III studies of MDMA as a treatment for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), the last stage before approval of a new medicine. MAPS, which plans to start enrolling subjects for its first Phase III study this spring, announced on Saturday that MDMA had qualified as a breakthrough therapy.

Pardon me while I dodge the many elephants in the room after posting this.

You'd have to be pretty phucked up in the head to be better off on that schit all the time.

Micro dosing seems to be gaining popularity with some in Silicon Valley.

The FDA seems to be gradually becoming a less scientific organization and more a political one like the DEA. See Debbie Wasserman Schultz and other idiot feminists pressuring them to approve a female aphrodisiac that probably doesn't work for the vast majority of women because men have Viagra and it's just not faaaaaaaaair.

At least we've got one fewer drug that's going to be criminalized and usually that's a good thing.

I tried MDMA once. Started a cult and murdered some Hollywood types.

Oh wait, that's not how MDMA works. I murdered a sub sandwich and watched the sunset.

LSD and mdma are quite different, don't know why it is mentioned.

Correct, MDMA is Ecstasy (Methylenedioxymethamphetamine). LSD is acid (Lysergic acid diethylamide).

Purer forms of LSD are highly hallucinogenic while Ecstasy is not.

Ecstasy can be about as dangerous as LSD if mixed with things.

Woops. Freudian slip, I had been reading about LSD being used for similar things by the same research group.

Updated the title.

Yep, I don't condone or endorse the use of either. I knew kids in the 70's who took a trip and never came back, seriously. I knew a kid whose entire personality changed because of heavy Ecstasy usage, fortunately he stopped but only after I pinned him to a wall and threatened - and came way too close for the only time in his life- to use his head as a speed bag. He is fine now.

I have a relative who really got messed up. Its probably been 20 years and I'm not sure he's fully recovered. He was hearing voices. Don't recall exactly what he was doing, but I think it was just alcohol mixed with ecstasy.

Hey, I hear voices...it's usually my wife.
