Early Signees - Hokie Mark - 12-20-2017 10:10 AM

From SI: National Signing Day 2018: News, Rumors and Live Updates as Top Prospects Commit

Four-star DT Robert Cooper sends in the first NLI of the Willie Taggart era at Florida State. One of the week’s biggest storylines has been whether Taggart has enough juice to bring the Seminoles’ class back into the top 30 after Jimbo Fisher’s messy exit led to several prominent prospects jumping ship.

This year’s No. 1 overall prospect, Cartersville (Ga.) quarterback Trevor Lawrence, makes his long-standing commitment to Clemson official
Defensive end Xavier Thomas, this class’s No. 3 overall recruit, is locked in to Clemson, making it two of the country’s top three prospects in the fold for Dabo Swinney

John Tessitore, the son of ESPN play-by-play man Joe Tessitore, has signed on to kick for Boston College. Can you imagine the call if Dad happens to be on the mic for a game-winning field goal?

Many other players have already signed - I'll try to get a summary together tomorrow morning when the dust settles.

Clemson just received the commitment of the #1 OL prospect in this class, Jackson Carman of Fairfield, OH. He chose the Tigers over Ohio State and Southern Cal.

That surprised a lot of people...Clemson small class but absolutely loaded.

Yeah, it's a small class. We should be able to add some more on actual signing day because of Juniors declaring. We already know Taylor Hearn is declaring so that's one, and I imagine that Wilkins and Ferrell are gone based on draft position projections. Probably still will not get to 25 spots but with most of our needs met in the early signing period anything we bring in is just gravy.

The smartest thing to do is demote him to LB coach. And I have a handful of assistant coaches I'd like to see shown the door.

Cards sign 20 with another expected to sign in February after he takes his official visit. That would leave 2 spots open. Good class for Louisville as they held off teams like Florida for QB Davis as 1 example.

OT: It’s not all good news for South Carolina today. The NCAA announced that two Gamecocks assistants committed recruiting violations for improperly leveraging their relationships with a high school coach. The coach was found to have pulled three or four recruits out from practice to run separate drills for the assistants in attendance during a larger workout. South Carolina has to (1) pay a $5,000 fine, )2_ can’t recruit the prospects involved, (3) lost four evaluation days in this fall’s evaluation period, (4) can’t engage in off-campus recruiting activities at that high school until September 2018 and (5) had to suspend each assistant from off-campus recruiting activities for six weeks.

And a fourth 5 star prospect puts pen to paper for Clemson today as KJ Henry of West Forsyth HS in Clemmons, NC commits. Henry is the 15th signee today for Clemson, and gives the Tigers 4 of the Top 10 players in the country this cycle.

LOL I heard Urban Myth is Pythed

Cuse lost a 4 star Center...(might still get him in Feb), they did flip the best kid from SMU's class and also a solid mid/high 3 star QB from the Houston Cougars. Both hail from Tyler, TX.

Yep. Looking at Miami and Clemson, I see no reason why either of those can't repeat next year. #LOADED.

Yup...Virginia Tech, Louisville and NC State did well today....but what Clemson and Miami did was just amazing....Outstanding classes by those two programs.

Georgia Tech actually did well... Signed 18 with 3 spots left

The cherry on top of the class was the addition of four-star quarterback James Graham, of Fitzgerald, who flipped from Virginia Tech to Georgia Tech on Friday morning. Georgia Tech lost only one player on a flip when Julius Weischof, of Germany, changed his mind and signed with Michigan.

Graham was the fourth four-star player landed by Georgia Tech, joining defensive end T.K. Chimedza, linebacker Justice Dingle and defensive back Jaylon King.

DL Chimedza (6-3, 300) grew up in Dacula, but played his senior season at the IMG Academy in Florida. He will enroll in January and will be eligible to compete in the spring. He could force his way into the conversation to play this fall.

LB Dingle (6-3, 245) was the No. 2-ranked player in Kentucky and ranked as the nation’s No. 16 inside linebacker by ESPN. The two-time all-state player helped his team win a state championship his junior season and was nominated for the Army All-America game. (Dingle and Peach County’s JaQuez Jackson were the only two linebackers signed.)

DB King (6-1, 180) was ranked as the No. 5 player from Tennessee and the nation’s No. 22 cornerback by Rivals. He could compete for time in the secondary, which was depleted by graduation.

Defense Line also bolstered with Austin Smith of McDonough and Luke Johns of Dalton fit in. Smith (6-4, 295) has played in numerous elite all-star games and helped Ola High make its first state playoff appearance in 2016. Johns had 95 tackles and five sacks as a senior and is an all-state candidate again.

Three big offensive linemen were added to the mix: Harrison Jump (6-5, 260) from Athens’ Price Avenue Christian; Michael Maye (6'3, 300)of Hoover, Alabama; and Zakk McKeehan (6-4, 285) of St. Francisville, Louisiana. Maye could have a slight advantage since he played in an option offense in high school.

The two A-backs both bring great credentials. Dontae Smith rushed for 4,269 yards and scored 45 touchdowns over his final two seasons at Spring Hill, Tenn. Tijai Whatley ran for 4,000 yards and 50 touchdowns in his three seasons at Rome’s Darlington School.

GTech..your class is failure until you sign the best linebacker named "Berry" in the country. We need you to come through for the sake of Meme's everywhere.
