The CAA has played 15 non-Division I games and has 1 left. In 2007-2008 when the CAA had 12 teams, they played 2 non-Division I games. In 2004-2005 the CAA played 1 non-Division I game.

I do not like it but I guess to get a home game mid majors may have to do this.

Smart scheduling can avoid this. As a season ticket holder, we have 4 non conference home games, and 2 are against non D1 opponents and I think it stinks. Waste of everyone's time

It would be much better for the league as a whole to have good nonconference schedules. The Tribe played 2 non D1 schools, but also played TCU, Ohio State and UCF, plus Marshall, George Mason and ODU. The league needs to schedule some tough games and hopefully win a few. Kudos this year to Towson who played in 2 tournaments and won them both. This year, the league is ranked 14th, down from 8-9 a year ago. Would love to see the CAA get 2 teams into the tournament, but it appears unlikely this year unless Towson goes on a significant run through the league and then fails to win the tournament.

I give the CAA no chance at an-large bid. Towson needed to win at least one of their games at Oakland and Pittsburgh. They're 53rd in the RPI, and I'm guessing CAA games will make their SOS of 164th get worse considering they don't play the best the CAA team, themselves. They are 1-2 against the Top 2 RPI Groups, as defined by the NCAA as:
A home win against a Top 75 team
A neutral site win against a Top 100 team (their win was against Georgia Southern who's 93rd)
An away win against a Top 135 team
Two or three seasons ago, William & Mary spent time in the Top 30 of the RPI without even making ESPN's Bubble Watch. I wouldn't be surprised if the Selection Committee considers teams who aren't in the Top 100 better than Towson. Neutral site wins over Penn, who's 116th, and La Salle, who's 118th, are Towson only wins that could become Top 2 RPI Group wins. As of now 5 of their 18 CAA games would be Top 2 RPI Group wins. Those are both games against William & Mary and games at Hofstra, Elon, and Northeastern. Even if they go 4-1 in those games and get 1 of those wins in the CAA Tournament, that would make about 6 such wins depending on how teams' RPIs change. Creighton, who is 3 spots behind Towson in the RPI, already has 2 Top 2 RPI Group wins. They're undefeated at home, and 7 of their 9 Big East opponents would be Top 2 RPI Group wins at any site. Going 5-9 in those games would give them 7 Top 2 RPI Group wins. Every Big East team would be a Top 2 RPI Group win at any site or nowhere, with DePaul and Georgetown not being a Top 2 RPI Group win anywhere.

Conference changed the scheduling bylaws in 2015 to allow up to 2 games vs non D1 opponents. Prior, from about 1994, no non D1 games were allowed without permission from the league office.
Personally wish the change wasn’t made.

The change was made while Yeager was still commissioner, so I wouldn’t chalk that up to his genius.
