Lutz would be the most underwhelming hire possible.

That would be the worst possible hire. Guy hasn't been an D1 HC since 2010 and is about to be 60. I can not possibly imagine he ends up getting hired.

I must be totally missing something regarding this search if Lutz is a candidate. I am assuming that Ryan Odom must be the choice to be ECU's next coach since ECU has not made an announcement yet. They could have already announced Dooley if he was the choice.

Lutz has been mentioned in an article + that tweet. It goes without saying that he would be a horrendous hire.

Moton>Lutz

I'd like to think we can all agree on that...

RE: ECU's next Basketball Coach? - k-vegasbuc - 03-18-2018 06:21 PM

Wow, I hope that tweet is just a bad rumor. Would be an incredibly underwhelming hire if true. I'm not big on Moton at all but I do believe I would prefer him at this point in his career vs Lutz.

I think that is a red herring. This search just screams Ryan Odom, because no announcement has been made yet. If ECU were interested in any remaining coach they could have already have hired them and had a press conference, because everyone's season is done except for Odom. I wouldn't even be surprised if ECU and Odom already have a deal in place. That Lutz story just smells like a story to throw the media off of ECU's actual target.

I don’t think Dooley’s out, but word has been that he wants a larger recruiting budget. Contracts can take a minute.

Well, UMBC is done, so if it's Odom, they can get to work.

I have a feeling a few more schools now know this guys name than a week ago.

Does it matter? How many schools have coaching vacancies right now that are better jobs than ecu? Off the top of my head- uconn, pitt, ville. Maybe 1 or 2 more. I dont see any of those schools going after odom. I think he is ecu’s if they want him

Not to mention he's from North Carolina

I agree, I think people are making out the tournament win to be more than it really is. That one win isn't all of a sudden going to make the blue bloods start calling. What the win did do is up his pay, UMBC will offer him a new contract and maybe double his pay. I believe he was at 230,000 so I can see them maybe getting him to $500,000. We can still beat that, we have practice facility, officers and locker rooms only a few years old, and we can throw in the contract a guarantee to update Minges within so many years. He's losing his best 2 players from this year, now is a good time for him to move. If I'm ECU and I can't get Dooley, I'm at least making Odom tell me no and then moving on to Wes Miller.

He actually grew up in Greenville till he was about 8 years old while his dad was our coach. His dad is from less than an hour away from Greenville as well.

They are announcing that Charlotte is hiring Ron Sanchez, I wanted to put that here since I know at one time he was reportedly a potential candidate for the ECU job. I will say that sounds like a solid hire for UNCC, one of the top assistants in the country.

RE: ECU's next Basketball Coach? - Philipvarg - 03-19-2018 04:51 PM

Is Jon Scheyer a candidate for ECU?

I haven't heard his name mentioned. I will say typically Duke assistants have been able to transition to some bigger schools in the past. The only assistant coaches names I have hear was Sanchez and Rob Lanier who is at Tennessee under Rick Barnes (also was a longtime assistant with Billy Donovon at Florida).
