Temple - stever20 - 02-02-2018 09:59 AM

Amazing to think but after last night- if Temple can win all 3 home games (ECU, Houston, UCF)- and win 4/5 on the road(Tulane, USF, Wichita, UConn, and Tulsa)- they would probably enter the conference tournament as nearly a lock to make the tourney. They would be 19-11 with a RPI of 29.7 and a SOS of 15(OOC SOS of 17). Even 6-2 might get them in with a win at the conference tourney.

RE: Temple - Chappy - 02-02-2018 10:01 AM

What an unpredictable team Temple is this year.

RE: Temple - oliveandblue - 02-02-2018 10:02 AM

This is why you don't schedule creampuffs, kids. Temple scheduled like a team that did not want to ever miss the tourney due to SOS.

I look at there future games as well and agree. I'm not sure where you are seeing their SOS at 15, unless that is projected, because right now they are at 3. Anyway, 18 regular season wins and 2 conference wins probably is enough to get them in. That said, it's a crap shoot in how they will actually finish.

(Temple's team sheet is on pg 37)

In the end will all the good wins trump the four quadrant 3 losses on their resume? This will be interesting to say the least if Temple finishes strong

It was projected.

I think if they enter conference tourney at 18-12(RPI of 38), and thus 10-8 conference record- and win even just 1 game in the conference tourney- they probably would be safe. Especially if they were the 4 seed and the game was vs a 5 seed. I think if Temple gets to 19 wins, they're safe.

RE: Temple - BrooklynRocket - 02-02-2018 10:15 AM

I'd say Temple has the 4th best NCAA prospects in the league at this point. With that being said, they have a LOT of work to do still. They could just as easily go 3-5 in their final 8 games as they could 6-2.

for them to go 3-5 now- they'd have to lose 5/6 to Houston, UCF, Tulane, Wichita, UConn, and Tulsa(or lose to either ECU or USF). That would be EXTREMELY unlikely. If they can get their 3 home games- and then USF on the road- they would just need to go 2-2 in the other 4 games.

Getting 4 wins in those road games is going to be a hard nut for them. Beating Houston will also be one. but, if they do what you suggest they'll deserve to be in for certain. What were their WTF losses?

Memphis and Tulane at home, La Salle on the road, and neutral vs GW.

@Tulane - Toss up
ECU - Win (lock)
@USF - Win (likely)
@Wichita - Loss
Houston - Toss up
UCF - Toss up
@UConn - Toss up
@Tulsa - Toss up

2 wins, 1 loss, 5 toss ups.

Temple certainly has the horses to go 6-2 over that stretch, but are more likely to go 4-4, maybe 5-3. If this team is inconsistent enough to lose to Tulane and Memphis at home, they can easily lose to UCF and Houston at home too.

This is probably most reasonable assessment I think Temple would get in with a 5-3 split and a tourny win (either as the 5 vs 12 or 6 vs 11) or with 4-4 they need two tourney wins (probably as 6 vs 11 than the 3 seed or 7 vs 10 than a 2 seed)

Best case scenario is 6-2 a lock or 5-3 needing the win and a 5 seed. Either is the surest path to dancing.

RE: Temple - sfink16 - 02-02-2018 12:12 PM

While losses are never good, some are better than others. The loss to a very good Cincy team (a team that destroyed them @Cincy) is a good loss, especially when they should have one that game. As someone in this thread said, does that loss override the WTF losses in the committee's eyes.

RE: Temple - JHG722 - 02-02-2018 12:59 PM

There is no such thing as a good loss.

RE: Temple - taximan1 - 02-02-2018 01:35 PM

Everytime we get a decent win, the perfume of that win is stronger than the stench of an overmatched coach. Unfortunately, we come back down to earth:

Tulsa - W
ECU - W
USF - W
WSU - L
HOU - L
UCF - L
Uconn - L
Tulane - L

Tulsa will beat you by at least 20

True. At least softball season starts soon.

RE: Temple - Wheatshock - 02-03-2018 09:42 AM

It would be nice if Temple would go on a run and make the tourney. At this point Temple and UCF are our best chances to get a fourth bid since SMU's injuries has them sinking fast.

The Dunphy vs water bottle incident is really painful now. Without that they are likely 13-9 with a very good chance to make the tourney.
