National Signing Day 2018 - thefaU - 02-06-2018 09:59 PM

I just wanted to create this thread to post all the signing updates to tomorrow.

RE: National Signing Day 2018 - ExcitedOwl18 - 02-07-2018 08:53 AM

Rice got a little bit of a surprise in Sean Stankavage, a graduate transfer from Vandy, has committed to us.

He’s been hurt almost his entire career though.

read ya'll lost a 3 star OL to ut as a preferred walkon...damn...his dad played at ut, but don't see how you pass up a rice education (free) and probably play a ton...sucks

RE: National Signing Day 2018 - goliath74 - 02-07-2018 10:58 AM

Armani Adams 3* SS/CB (former Ariz. commit) signs LOI for FAU

RE: National Signing Day 2018 - MU ATO - 02-07-2018 11:11 AM

I never worry about coach holiday and staff ability to recruit players. The proof is on the field and results show. The recruiting will take care of itself and Marshall will always do well.

LB. his dad was an OL who was a star at UT and went on to play in the NFL. He has an older brother at Rice (not an athlete) and was the first of 3 from his HS to commit this year we well...

Kid was probably raised rooting for UT, in a house with a burnt orange decor. Family has money, so the cost was not a consideration. I've seen this before in kids whose dad played at a given school.

Yeah, Luke Brockermeyer.

His dad (who played in the NFL for a long time) and grandfather both played for Texas.

He also turned down a scholarship offer from Oregon State. Kind of a weird recruitment.

The other twist in his recruitment is that his brother (who isn't an athlete) is a sophomore at Rice right now.

Win some, lose some, I suppose... Bloomgren did a nice job of pulling together a class that at the very least, beat a couple of teams other than UTEP in the rankings. Like any coaching change, can't fully judge a staff's ability on the trail until their first full class.

On the topic of another walk-on, one of Bloomgren's first offers as a new coach was to an ATH from the San Francisco area. A couple weeks ago, he got offered by Cal and I had pretty much wrote him off as that is the school in his backyard.

Today, he ends up taking a PWO offer from Wisconsin! Call it the JJ Watt effect I suppose...

I can't imagine turning down a Rice education to walk on at Texas

RE: National Signing Day 2018 - TTT - 02-07-2018 12:01 PM

I feel baaaaaaad for CUSA offenses going forward...Southern Miss has absolutely LOADED UP on some defensive linemen:

3-star DE/DT Hybrid Nick Dawson 6'3 268 (JUCO w/ 3 years elig.)
3-star DT Isaiah Johnson 6'5 300 (JUCO w/ 3 years elig.)
3-star DE Deuntra Hyman 6'5 240 (HS)
3-star DE Ethan Edmonson 6'4 246 (HS
3-star DE/DT Hybrid Junior Carswell 6'4 295 (HS)
3-star DT Von'Darius Freeman 6'3 320 (JUCO w/ 2 years elig.)

Every one of these guys had multiple offers from P5's. BTW, we currently lead CUSA in recruiting ranking fwiw.

RE: National Signing Day 2018 - goliath74 - 02-07-2018 12:12 PM

Malcolm Davidson 3* RB signs LOI for FAU (picked FAU over ECU, just saying 03-lmfao)

Former Alabama RB 3* BJ Emmons plans to sign with FAU later in the day.

It looks like we're loading up for that USM defense 03-lmfao

Rivals is terrible. They still list several guys for Florida Atlantic who decommitted months ago (e.g. Billy Joseph, Dabarre Jenkins, Jason Mercier, etc.)

Please use 247Sports' composite rankings. https://247sports.com/Season/2018-Football/CompositeTeamRankings?Conference=C-USA

RE: National Signing Day 2018 - Saint Greg - 02-07-2018 12:39 PM

Tech signed everyone expected plus one more. That one more is OL Eric Dunn. Interesting I can't find him on any recruiting websites but he's been an All-State OL in Louisiana at least the past two years. Maybe a combo of lower level (1a) and small size (6-4 245)

Here are today's signings:

3* DB Derek Turner - Offers: TCU, Auburn, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Kansas State, Army, Tulane, USM, stAte, ULL, ULM

3* OL Willie Allen - Offers: Baylor, Minnesota, Mississippi State, Syracuse, TCU, UCLA, West Virginia, UCF

3* DL Steven Shaw - Offers: Kansas, UConn, Wyoming, Tulane, UNT, UTSA, Tx State, ULL

3* WR Davon "Smoke" Harris - Offers: Memphis, SDSU, Tulane, Army, stAte, ULL, ULM, Idaho

2* OL Walker Hankinson - Offers: Yale, Tulsa, SMU, Rice, UTSA, Tx State

2* RB Elijah Hines - Offers: New Mexico, New Mexico State

2* RB DeAndre Marcus

OL Eric Dunn

years prior multiple sources have been listed. not sure why only 247 can be used now. That said, i prefer 247 as well.

USM is 5th on 247sports, why would he use that service?

Its always fun to look at the new toys though, just like at Christmas when a kid, its always fun to open and look at ll the presents even if you don't play with most of them all at once.

Marshall picked up 2 so far that the coaches really weren't sure about or counting on;

3* WR Corey Gammage (WR | 6-4 | 190 | Delray Beach, Fla./Atlantic Community High School) Gammage was once committed to Florida until Mullin took over.

3* DE Aaron Morgan (WDE | 6-3 | 240 | Hallandale, FL/Miami Carol City) Morgan flipped his commitment to Marshall from Mississippi State. You are welcome USM fans.

Seriously who in their right mind if they had a choice would choose to play for Scottie Montgomery. The guy is horrible.

USM is #1 in Rivals so therefor that's the only service I care about 03-wink

Rivals is the legit site. 247 has been around since 2010. Rivals was started in 1998.

RE: National Signing Day 2018 - TTT - 02-07-2018 12:57 PM

How different is the grading in 247 vs Rivals in terms of ranking classes?
