OT: St. Johns? - sfink16 - 02-07-2018 09:13 PM

How were they 0 and 11 in the Big East yet were able to beat Duke now 'Nova in back to back games?

They’ve lost a lot of very close BE games. They are not as bad as their record would have you think.

they're trying to get cincy on the 1 line

The gap between “not that bad” and “winning vs Duke and @ Villanova” is pretty large.

I watched most of the game and IMO SJ simply out worked Duke.

Invite them now.

St. John's actually has a lot of talent, even without Lovett. Obviously Duke-Nova makes you sit up and take notice regardless, but they never should have dropped all those games to begin with (and they did pretty well in their out of conference before Duke).

The Big Pee and all it's mighty dregs is an enigma.

Quite simply, Duke can't win a road game to save their lives. It's why they don't play on the road in the non-con and mask their "quality losses" on the road in the ACC.

As for the Nova game, I dunno how the hell that happened. I honestly thought Nova was invincible. I guess the loss of Booth might catch up with them?

Kids from a school in Minnesota just can't play good basketball consistently. Fact.

OK, I'll bite. What does Minnesota have to do with anything? St. Johns plays in New York City.

They aren't a bad basketball team. They just have been terrible at finish games. They are an NIT type team that had a great 2 game stretch against 2 of the best. It's very odd, but can happen.

Nova was without Paschall I think- another one of their top 6 guys. And they go about 7 deep so that's not good.

It's just crazy that St John's could beat both Duke and Nova- and won't come close to even making the NIT. That'd be like UConn beating Wichita and Cincy here....

They "motorboated" us last year...worst loss of the year. Coach Mullin seems to get the players up for big games. If Coach Mullin can get some of the best in the Metro they can be a Top 25 team.

I had kept on eye on Mullin and SJ (Ewing and the Hoyas too) because Memphis could potentially be in a similar situation soon. St Johns has looked awful at times, but you are correct in that if Mullin can lock down 3-4 guys a year from NYC, then he could get it rolling.

the thing that's strange is that those guys typcially don't stay home- they almost always leave the city.

Also, I don't think NYC hoops is as strong now as it used to be.

So I see a confusing response from an ECU fan and respond. That response is met with another confusing response from another ECU fan with no explanation. I guess that's how they teach students in that neck of the words, talk in riddles.

I've never been to Minnesota (other than a layover in the airport) and know nothing about it other that I don't want to know anything about it.

That's not completely true, it's been in the news a lot for sending home grown want to be ISIS people to Iraq/Syria. It's also know for the only state that voted for Mondale against Reagan. Too liberal crazy for me to want to know anything else about it or want to visit.

I was laughing because 8bitpirate is clueless. He either thought St. John's was in Minnesota . . .

Thanks for the clarification. I thought I was missing something.
