Ethics in G'ment - umbluegray - 02-09-2018 03:00 PM

Or lack thereof...

Megan Barry is the mayor of Nashville. Not that it matters but she's a Dem. She recently admitted to an extramarital affair with Sgt. Robert Forrest who's the head of her security detail.

This adulterous affair apparently began quite a while ago. This past week the Nashville-Davidson metro council voted 30-7 to investigate possible misuse of public money.

Nashville council approves investigation into public money related to Mayor Megan Barry's affair

Last March Mayor Barry and her chief of security traveled alone. The affair had already begun at that point.

On March 22, 2017, shortly after returning from that trip, Mayor Barry spoke to Belmont University's Student Center for the Public Trust (Student CPT).

Mayor Barry Speaks on Role of Ethics in Government

Quote:On March 22, Belmont’s Student Center for the Public Trust hosted Nashville Mayor Megan Barry to discuss the importance of social responsibility and ethics in both government and business. With a professional background as an ethics and compliance officer for several companies and membership on the Ethics Advisory Board, Barry spoke about the role ethics plays in various situations.

She began her discussion by stating that “people have to have faith that their government is ethical.” Without this faith rooted in the community, everything else can easily fall apart.

And that is the problem.

I DON'T have faith that our government is ethical. At any level -- city, state, or federal.

We have reached the point in the American political structure where we can no longer assume the people who serve us do so ethically.

I (unfortunately) assume every elected or appointed official has some level of corruption. And I don't give either party the benefit of doubt.

Maybe humanity needs to separate sexual activity from ethics and people would not have to try to hide their picadillos.

Nah.

Ethics, morality, whatever you want to call it...

Certain behaviors are good/right while others are bad/wrong.

If a person violates the sacred marriage commitment against a person they know deeply and intimately, why should mere strangers assume that person would treat the populace any better?

Two years ago my family and I got stranded in Nashville for days due to a snowstorm that hit, where the city was completely unprepared for ensuring the streets and interstates were clear. It was an unmitigated disaster. And noone knew why, because the storm had been accurately predicted for nearly a week as being a potential "big one". The storm arrived about 3 hours early, but the fact that there was no prep done on the streets ahead of time was puzzling. The fact that the people who were to clear the streets couldnt get to work because they were snowed in sounded weird, as they should have already been at work and been prepping the roads.

Ever since this story broke, it made me wonder if those two were shacking up near city hall under the premise of getting prepared for the snow, thinking that it wouldnt hit until mid-day, and they completely missed the fact that the snow came in a few hours early because they were "pre-occupied."

Good point, but it seems to me that we have no ethical or moral people involved in politics. They all seem to be narcissistic and power hungry.

That's kind of my point. And the idea that they think we should have faith in them is laughable.

Well, in a twisted way I have faith in them -- faith that they'll do the wrong thing.

They can't be trusted. And because of that we should be watching them closely.
