I wouldn't think so. This would only affect maybe a couple of dozen prospects a year. Duke would just be first in line for the rest, at least as long as Coach K continues to coach.

Many Duke fans would welcome the end of the one and done era. It's hard to identify with players who are only in school one year. We can also see what's happened at Kentucky. Duke may be feasting on one and doners now but there's no guarantee that will continue.

Yeah I'd agree with that. Not bad news for Duke, who has shown under Coach K to be able to win in either roster management model -- with one-and-dones, or without.

But ... this would certainly ruin Calipari, who hasn't shown the aptitude to coach at all. And unless he can overwhelm you with talent, he has no shot. And even when he can overwhelm you with talent, it's doesn't guarantee victory. See the West Virginia Elite Eight game when Cal had 2 first round point guard draft picks, and Huggins' point guard broke his foot the day before the game. See Wisconsin in the Final Four. Just two high profile examples where the much more talented team did not win.

As far as the college game goes, losing these kids who are only here for 9 months anyway would NOT hurt the college game. And I would argue it would only improve it. On top of that .... it would annoy ESPN, who promotes the next big thing in college more than they do the college game (See Trae Young at Oklahoma this year. Who is as bubblicious as my Cardinals this year. See Ben Simmons at LSU - they didn't even make the freakin' tourney!)

So end this crap once and for all.

Send Cal on his way, and give a huge middle finger to ESPN.

I don't know if you can say all that with regard to Duke's success in the one and done era. They are similar to UK. Both won it all with freshman/ sophomore dominate teams. UK's 2012 team led by Anthony Davis and Duke's 2015 team led by Okafor. 2017 - 2nd exit to USC, 2016 - good run to sweet sixteen, 2015 - won it all, 2014 - 1st round exit to Mercer, 2013 - good run to elite eight, 2012 1st round exit to Leheigh. Aside from the 2016 2nd round exit to IU, UK has advanced further than Duke.

I think one and done is a crap shoot and the programs are hoping to hit lightening in a bottle like UK did in 2012. "If" is a huge word and I would have loved to see the rematch between UNC/UK in the tournament. If Kendall Marshall hadn't broken his wrist, that was where the tourney was headed.

Based on the comments I can't tell if you guys realized I was just messing with Duke basketball, despite the stir-pot emoji.

I agree: 1-and-done is not good for college basketball and should go away, and Duke will be OK without it.

I remember when one and done meant they flunked out and went back home and got a job.

Or it could be the beginnings of a true minor league. What would an 18yo do if given the choice of going to college for 1-4 years or play in a NBA farm system and make some cash along the way?

There are a lot of sub .500 NBA teams. Would they risk a draft pick, albeit a later one, if they had a place to stash the kid?
