Thoughts on Rhode Island, etc... - WsU Tang Clan - 03-06-2018 05:26 AM

If the AAC tries to bump their stock up at the behest of ESPN, do you think an Army/Rode Island and Boise/Umass add is something that would be palatable to both ESPN and AAC ADs/Prezes (of course a BYU/Gonzaga add would be the optimal brand name choice, but seeing the difficulty with the logistics involved, it's a dead in the water issue)? I mean two national brand/national fan bases in football, plus two state flagship schools in basketball (that bring local rivalries for UCONN) makes sense, doesn't it?

Oh dear sweet Jesus... It's not even the off season yet.

It is if your a football fan.
I like the teams and adding army gives us an option to go for a top basketball program much like wsu did. Somehow I want an option where BYU is in the mix.

Agreed; like I said, a BYU/Gonzaga and Boise/St.Mary's add would be the most optimal, but the logistics involved geographically and the whole "we are anti gay Mormons, who don't play on Sundays" kind of kills the deal.

STOP STOP STOP

No more non football schools !! I know its basketball season, but this conference was formed for all sport schools. Let the Rhodys go to the Big East. perfect fit.

RE: Thoughts on Rhode Island, etc... - HuskyU - 03-06-2018 07:27 AM

No. I'll take Rhode Island's coach and OOC series with all of them though.

RE: Thoughts on Rhode Island, etc... - Carolina_Low_Country - 03-06-2018 07:30 AM

VCU should the only non football program we go after. Gets us in the Virginia market.

I would add Army football only/VCU and BYU. Gives us 14 for all sports.

I hear what you are saying, but I think we still need 2 more brand name bball schools to be fully accepted as a deep power bball conference. If we could find two schools that were decent at both football and bball that were on the east coast, I'd be all for it, but that isn't the case; therefore, we have to do 2 more western (or 1 western + Army) associate memberships in football w/ 2 bball school Olympic adds to be fully accepted as a power conference.

This is the correct answer.

They are a really solid basketball team that's probably been a little overrated all season.

Wait you were talking for expansion. Repeat after me: WE DON'T NEED TO EXPAND.

RE: Thoughts on Rhode Island, etc... - BigHouston - 03-06-2018 10:41 AM

As long as Mike Aresco, Navy AD Chet Gladchuk and few others in this league Boise will never be AAC blood.

I wouldn't mind Gonzaga with BYU as combo but in BYU's case they would need to bring their football along, BYU as a basketball only is a none starter and doubt league members would agree.

Not that AAC expansion is anywhere in site again, but if there was wonder who Wichita State would favor as a future basketball member.

What say you Shocker fans

I don't think there's any need for expansion but I guess VCU would probably be my 1st choice.
