Despite the dossier being the vast majority of the evidence placed before the FISA judge, the FBI countered that it was a tip from Australian Foreign Minister Alexander Downer that actually the main reason the FBI started the investigation. This would have been an entirely independent source not linked to the Hillary campaign (unlike the dossier, which the FISA request failed to reveal was a Hillary campaign product). The diplomatic tip claimed a Trump campaign aide of boasted at a bar that damaging evidence about Hillary was about to be released. Well, it turns out the "independent source" (Alexander Downer) actually has some pretty strong Clinton ties that were not disclosed in the FISA request. Turns out he played a key role in securing a 25 million dollar donation to the Clinton Foundation.
