I may be the only to feel this way but... - Eagle in the gym - 03-07-2018 10:20 PM

I like the venue and two games going at the same time. If I could have gotten away from work, that would have been awesome to go back and forth. I have stayed in Frisco multiple times and it is a very nice area. C-USA has SO many issues to be upset about, I don't understand why all the shade is thrown at this tournament on day one by people who aren't there. I would also be cool with on campus games or UAB/NO hosting, for the record. All fine ideas. Just don't get the hate for this year's version.

Oh, and I apologize to the conference for beating MTSU tomorrow and knocking the one seed out of the tournament.

I agree. The venue is nice and if Tech can win tonight then I will be there tomorrow. Most of the bitching is unwarranted.

it's because people like to ***** whenever they can, even without seeing how something may pan out...easier to complain in life

Agree.

At first I was adamant about this venue, but now that I saw the broadcast, I think this is not bad at all. Of course, it’s not perfect, but nothing in life is. I am actually not upset about this anymore.

The broadcasts aren't bad, the sound hasn't been great on my feed. I'm interested in hearing some first hand accounts

I've muted. Sound has been garbled at best for some reason.

Posted from mobile device. Hopefully it's coherent.

from our one of our radio crew"

So what is atmosphere like? Can you tell there are two games going on?
No I couldn't tell another game was going on at all, it's a very fan friendly environment. If Ford field Sat at least 22-25,000 people I would say it would be a hell of a place for a football champ.

Do they have midget wrestling for halftime entertainment!
No, but midget tossing is available at the Fan Experience

If they wanted to do it there. They needed to flip the courts and have the cameras point toward the permanent 2 level seating. It looks very small time the way it is.

Also, the tourney needs to be in a place closest to the schools that fill their arenas. Marshall, ODU, Middle, WKU, UAB. If Charlotte became good again I'm sure their support would grow. Basically Charlotte or Nashville should be the main choices to hold the tourney.

If the West teams had all the attendance numbers keep it in Texas, but they don't so there's no sense in having it where no one will go.

I don't know what y'all are watching. The North Texas game looked ok, but the rest looked terrible. My son and I watched the end of the Southern Miss game and we counted 5 people in the stands and maybe 50 in the courtside bleachers. Not a good look. I think the semis and finals will probably fill the courtside bleachers, but there is no getting around the vast panorama of empty seats in the stands themselves.

They ought to just take a page from FIU's book and put walls behind the baskets and have someone paint a sunset. Or hold it in a nice high school facility somewhere with a 2,000 capacity that might be filled, at least for the championship game.

Or better yet, let the higher seeds host so it is played in front of 8,500 at ODU and 11,500 at MTSU.

UTEP, when good, has strong attendance. Then again, it is a ~10 hour drive from El Paso to Frisco. Even they would probably have an easier trip with a 2.5 hour flight to Charlotte.

At least the sounds from the opposing court don't seem to be a problem.'

Hopefully the NT fans will come out to watch their women.

I'm not sure the facilities in Knoxville for a tournament. But it takes..
About 3 hours from Murfreesboro
About 4 hours from Bowling Green
About 4 hours from Charlotte
4 hours from Birmingham
4.5 hours from Huntington
7.5 hours from Hattiesburg
8 hours from Norfolk.

With the right facilities that's another good central point for the most teams.

RE: I may be the only to feel this way but... - shiftyeagle - 03-08-2018 09:15 AM

It should be in Birmingham every year. It's about as "in the middle" of the conference as you can get and the home team draws well.

Putting the baseball tourney on the MS Gulf Coast every year has worked out well for similar reasons.

A flight to Nashville costs the same as a flight to Dallas for us. Difference is people can actually drive if they want to. It's a 20 hour drive to Dallas.

Nashville or Charlotte would be best. I was just trying to think of another location. I don't think we should do Birmingham again. Crowds never looked good there.

RE: I may be the only to feel this way but... - shiftyeagle - 03-08-2018 09:22 AM

Crowds won't be great anywhere except when the home team is playing. Let's be honest with ourselves

RE: I may be the only to feel this way but... - Gilesfan - 03-08-2018 09:24 AM

Having been to Knoxville, I would just rather drive 4 more hours (or fly) to Nashville than stay in Knoxville.

I think there is something to be said about at least making it easier for the teams who have the most fan support. That box isn't checked when it's in Texas, no offense to NT fans here.

On the other hand, there will be complaints no matter where it's held. That's just because our conference is so huge. There's no getting around it.
