You'll probably be able to add Fox at Georgia to that list if they lose to Missouri tonight.

Buyout included, Pittsburgh paid Stallings $544k per win.

Don't we all wish we could screw up that miserably and be rewarded so well!

^ Yup - Umass is in the middle of paying Derek Kellogg $2.0M to coach another team (LIU) for 2 years.

What is even more awesome is that we are paying our actual coach on the sidelines now about 1/4th of that - and he can literally coach circles around DK.

Pitt is trying to force Stallings to take much less than his buyout amount.

Quote:Pitt presented Stallings with what amounted to a settlement, a reduced buyout that 93.7 The Fan reported to be $4.8 million, or the option of being fired with cause. He accepted neither, and the two sides have yet to agree on terms of a buyout.

On Friday, Stallings’ lawyers, Scott Tompsett and Jim Lieber, released a statement denying reports of a $7.5 million buyout offered to Stallings by Pitt and said the actual number offered is “far less.”

“Mr. Lieber and I vehemently disagree with reports from unnamed sources that Pitt has cause to terminate Coach Stallings’ contract for cause based on comments Coach Stallings made at the Louisville game over two months ago on January 2, 2018,” the statement read. “It is our position that Coach Stallings is due and owed his full contract buyout.”

If you're going to recruit a coach from another school, give him a contract with a big buyout, and then fire him because he's not doing a good enough job then just pay the man his money and move on.

All this nonsense is going to do is scare off any good potential candidates because they'll know Pitt's athletic department is either incompetent or untrustworthy...maybe both.

It's not Kevin Stallings' fault these people apparently promised him money they couldn't afford.

Fox has now made the list.

Coach Pitino will receive somewhere between $13-28 million buyout/settlement/court victory/some combo of the former. IMO of course.

It's in the university's interest to fight it, however much he ultimately gets. They don't want to appear complicit in the money pipeline from adidas, and they don't know what else from the FBI investigation will be revealed.

Who are the candidates Louisville is looking at? Or are they just going to let Padgett continue?

We have kept the Adidas contract that was negotiated with the blessing of the BoT and the interim President. Why is UofL acting different than EVERY OTHER UNIVERSITY regarding the FBI investigation?
Regarding candidates, usually the President of the University hires an Athletic Director who hires the coaches. We have an interim President who fired an established AD because he wouldn't fire an established Basketball Coach. The interim President, with the help of a controversially appointed BoT hired an interim AD who also audited the prior People working in and through the University.
Apparently we will have a permanent basketball coach before a permanent AD or President. It's a cluster ****. Who the hell knows? I like and thank Coach Padgett for being classy and a leader under the worst of circumstances. He had two relatives pass away during the season as well as taking on the mess this University has become through no fault of his own. We still have games to play and I'm not ready to speculate who the coach will be much less the players.

RE: P5 hoops coaches OUT and IN - Wedge - 03-12-2018 12:56 PM

As for how other schools have responded to the FBI investigation: Arizona is taking a risk, IMO. It's not disputed that the FBI has recordings of Miller phone conversations with the agent Dawkins. Miller only claims that what ESPN's sources claim is on those recordings is not exactly what was said, and it seems doubtful that Miller knew nothing of what his assistants were doing. Alabama, Auburn, Miami, and USC are taking lesser risks because they have dismissed anyone who was indicted and, as far as we know, the head coaches were not caught on any FBI recordings.

But others are taking risks to some degree, maybe not investigating and just hoping that the FBI doesn't have anything on them, because it stands to reason that if shoe companies and street agents are allegedly willing to pay six figures to direct a player to Louisville or Arizona, they would allegedly do the same for other programs that have elite one-and-done players, such as Duke, UNC, Kansas, or Kentucky.

Carolina has had only one one and done in the last 11 years.

Quote:Louisville formally informed interim coach David Padgett that they will be finding someone else to fill the head basketball coach position on a permanent basis, Padgett told 247Sports.

"They are going in a different direction," Padgett said. "They appreciated my efforts and everything I did with this team and to make it a good situation, obviously they wished me nothing but the best and I feel the same about the university."

Looking like Louisville's job goes to Chris Mack if he accepts it.

Pitt will probably hire a mid-major coach during the Final Four.

RE: P5 hoops coaches OUT and IN - Wedge - 03-27-2018 12:29 PM

Pitt hired Jeff Capel as their new men's basketball head coach.

RE: P5 hoops coaches OUT and IN - Wedge - 03-27-2018 03:28 PM

Louisville hired Chris Mack as its new men's basketball head coach.

Aaaaaaand we're done here, unless there is a late firing or resignation on another P5 team.
