It is interesting that the period for applying for the job is just 10 days. Does that speak to perhaps there has been a qualified candidate previously identified?

Would hope that's the plan.

Perhaps the position will be named for Mont Linkenauger.

Assoc AD Position - zablenoise - 03-26-2018 08:44 AM

So is this replacing the sport medicine position or superseding it? Or what? Always nice to see Huge bring in new blood.

Wow! Quite a toe-stepping position description if this isn't an inside hire. This is one area I never felt the Tribe was lacking other than sufficient facilities but you never know I guess. Let's say the new position is $100,000 per year including benefits...that's a lot of upgrades to current S&C and training facilities.

RE: Assoc AD Position - Tribe32 - 03-26-2018 08:54 AM

My guess is that Huge is promoting Evanne Rable (title only), but who knows.

The title is Athletic High Performance, not Academic High Performance.....

So far her hires appear to be impressive. I'm looking forward to seeing where this leads.

RE: Assoc AD Position - Tribe32 - 03-26-2018 09:56 AM

Looks like it is going to oversee sports medicine and strength/conditioning and maybe bring a sports psychology program into the mix. Should be interesting. With that said, a ten day post means a candidate is already on staff or an outsider is known and vetted.

Agreed. Sounds like a position created with someone specific in mind.

I'll respectfully disagree here. I've always thought the S&C side was solid (Sauer is a hidden strength of the FB program) but having worked alongside sports medicine there will be tons of room for improvement with this hire.

Improvement in personnel? Or facilities? I agree with Sauer being a strength but wondering where the deficiency lies in sports med (or athletic training) considering your experience there.

Both. I'm not gonna throw anyone under the bus specifically. But in general our sports med is understaffed and undertrained. New facilities would always help too of course.

Thanks. I can easily agree with the understaffed part. Will trust your first hand knowledge of the training. Sometimes that goes hand in hand.

Does Steve Cole not perform these duties? Seems like something he would really excel at...

If we can shore up the EVMS affiliation, I wonder if that would improve?

I still am annoyed with the new Health Center/Wellness building replacing the lodges instead of being built into the UC/south endzone area as a stadium enclosure of sorts. This would have been a great way to put the sports medicine and health center into one logically located facility as well as improve the feel of Zable.

RE: Assoc AD Position - Tribe3455 - 03-26-2018 04:29 PM

The required alphabet soups all point toward certifications in strength and conditioning. The preferred certification is in athletic training, with a PhD. It is a combination of certifications and education level that points heavily toward a targeted hire, whomever that may be.

RE: Assoc AD Position - WMInTheBurg - 03-26-2018 11:39 PM

FWIW, there's also an Athletic Trainer position open.

Although it IS an area in which he would likely excel, I don't think Steve Cole has been a "titled" member of the sports medicine staff for a few years. His title is now "Associate AD-Internal Affairs".

From TribeAthletics.com: "Steve Cole enters his 33rd year at the College of William & Mary, with 25 of those years spent leading the W&M Sports Medicine program. In 2008, Cole assumed the role as the Associate Athletics Director for Internal Operations, overseeing nearly every facet of the department’s daily operation. His administrative responsibilities include monitoring financial matters, coordinating the scheduling of athletic events and facilities, and supervision of coaches and staff."
