April 23 baseball standings, RPI, rankings - usm99 - 04-23-2018 09:20 AM

Tiebreakers may not be correct so standings could be flipped where ties are currently involved

USM 13-4 (percentage points better, USM beat FAU 2/3)
FAU 13-4-1
LT 13-5
UTSA 9-8
WKU 9-9 (beat UAB 2/3, plays Charlotte later)
UAB 9-9 (lost to WKU 2/3, beat Charlotte 2/3)
Charlotte 9-9 (lost to UAB 2/3, plays WKU later)
FIU 8-10
----------teams below would not make CUSA-T "if" it began this week
Rice 6-10-2
MT 6-11-1
Marshall 5-13 (plays ODU later in season)
ODU 5-13

RPI
15 - FAU
36 - USM
50 - LT
73 - UTSA
105 - Rice
108 - Charlotte
151 - FIU
163 - Marshall
180 - MT
183 - WKU
197 - UAB
249 - ODU

Polls
D1 baseball
#11 USM

Baseball America
#15 USM

Somewhat crazy USM is that high at 28-11 while FAU (29-9-1) and LT (29-13) aren't
in the polls at all. FAU has a better RPI and better OOC SOS (34 to our 139). Also, after winning 25 straight and now 34-5 overall Tennessee Tech is at #25 in the D1 polls

What about Lacrosse? You have to be good at that in your region, if not that's just sad man.

Good observation, and that's why I put more stock in RPI. Those polls are very subjective, and while no system is perfect, RPI is generally more reliable as a whole.

We only have women's lax. If we wanted men's lax, I think we'd have to stop playing either baseball, wrestling or soccer because of title 9.

Not this year. As Drunkard said, we only have womens. They will play in the Big East next year so we'll see how it goes.

Considering have haven’t played a true home game in 30-40 years, we are at least somewhat competitive. Yet, we have 3/4 guys in the show.

What stinks the most about baseball rankings and format has they put travel ahead of far matchups.

FAU could go onto win the C-USA which is a top 5 baseball conference but will simply be forced to play UF the number one team.

It's the basketball equivalent of a no.4-5 seed playing a number 1 seed.

CUSA is not a top 5 conference this year. We’re borderline top 10 currently (#11) but with a good midweek we can get there. Rankings are subjective as USM is top 15 in all polls except for Collegiate Baseball which doesn’t have us in the top 30 while we are as high as 11 in 2 of the other 3 polls I believe

At least they changed the seeding for regionals.

Rather than possibly being 3-way tie for first those cancelled/tied games are keeping the top 3 separate by like a 1/4 game. Tech-USM series will be a big decider.

RE: April 23 baseball standings, RPI, rankings - nastybunch - 04-23-2018 04:49 PM

Looks like USM has the toughest row to hoe, with 3 out of the last 4 series on the road.

Eh. The three road series are all teams that haven't had good seasons and don't have much fan support. I know we're playing on the road, but it's not like we're playing at LSU.

Exactly. Now we could pee down our legs and lose all 3 series easily but considering how well we've played in our first 2 CUSA road series (FAU, FIU) I like our chances of winning at least 2/3 games each series. If I had to place a bet RIGHT NOW I'd go with us winning 7 of those 9 games.

RE: April 23 baseball standings, RPI, rankings - shiftyeagle - 04-24-2018 09:56 AM

What sucks is that we are basically being forced to sweep every remaining series except La Tech because the others' RPIs are so crappy. We lose one of those games to ODU, UAB, or Marshall (our bullpen is due an implosion) and our RPI probably drops by 30 or so spots. Hell, our RPI is going to drop even if we sweep every series and outscore them 45-0. That just sucks.

RE: April 23 baseball standings, RPI, rankings - nastybunch - 04-24-2018 04:47 PM

That is why RPI was created for the high resource teams.

And THAT'S the problem I have with college baseball.

Would it be allowed/possible to have a dynamic schedule to try to avoid this scenario? Have the back half of the CUSA schedule of the top teams playing each other more and get the lower schools that would drag down RPI off their schedule? People will cry logistics, but would it be worth it?

Same issue the "basketball" schools have......teams like USM, FIU, FAU, Rice, etc drag MT, ODU, WKU, Marshall and others down. Unfortunately the only fix for both situations is the hardest....just win
