Way to early USA Today top 25 Poll - pcm0103 - 05-04-2018 07:39 AM

Interesting that they do not have any AAC schools. I would think UCF would at least be in the middle somewhere? Are you guys losing a lot of talent from last year? FAU at 17? I know its way to early for a poll but I still think some of this is way off.

UCF returns a ton. We lost some key players to the draft but we'really deep the the skill positions. I know we have a new coach but not sure why we wouldn't at least start in the top 25. Hell Auburn is in it.

RE: Way to early USA Today top 25 Poll - KnightFanDave - 05-04-2018 08:54 AM

Glad FAU is getting some early attention, but I do find it pretty laughable FAU gets 17 and UCF is no where to be found. FAU has new off and def coordinators, and has to replace a LOT of their offense (QB, 2 top recievers, and some starting linemen). They do return their beast of a RB though. I think they lost just one key LB on defense.

The two biggest losses for UCF (to me) are Griffin and Hughes. Griffin being the heartbeat of the defense and Hughes was invaluable as a shutdown corner (not to mention we may not have gone 13-0 without that key kick return). UCF is stacked with talented targets for Milton so I'm not concerned about our WR and TE losses although we'll miss them.

I hope FAU gets a preseason ranking and goes out and upsets Oklahoma in week 1. I think they have a real shot. Plus, I'd love to take down a ranked FAU team. Puts the target on their back instead of ours.

CUSA on the rise. Making a claim for P6 status?

RE: Way to early USA Today top 25 Poll - billybobby777 - 05-04-2018 08:59 AM

So Boise St at 14 and FAU at 17....the Boise ranking is predictable but the FAU pick is shockingly high....

CUSA? USA Today has 2 MWC teams in the top 20 (14 Boise and 20 San Diego St).
UCF and Memphis got snubbed.

RE: Way to early USA Today top 25 Poll - HuskyU - 05-04-2018 09:04 AM

Possibly UCF's own doing. The Knights pissed off a lot of people with the whole National Championship thing.

RE: Way to early USA Today top 25 Poll - TripleA - 05-04-2018 09:12 AM

FAU got a mention due to Lane Kiffin.

I don't know. I think UCF will be really good but they've got a new coach that is a bit of a question mark and lost a few key players. Who can really say what they will look like for sure.

new coach doesn't matter for other teams in this top 25 ranking including Miss State (new staff) and FAU (new OC and DC).

Yeah I didn't look at this list just read the thread. I was just saying if Frost was back you'd probably be on this list no question.

Might as well call us the Big Yeast.

RE: Way to early USA Today top 25 Poll - Tigersmoke4 - 05-04-2018 10:25 AM

This is the media's way of trying to tamp down the AAC. Every year it's as if they don't have any data points on our teams or our league. This is part of the narrative that all g5s are interchangeable. Then as our teams start to win and beat p5 opponents we'll slowly rise to just being respectable I the polls. They know that there is a strong possibility that to rank a Memphis or UCF or Houston as high as FAU could lead to a top 4 undefeated AAC team. Congrats to CUSA and FAU, but does anyone really think that anyone in the nation considers them the #17 best team in the nation? I think there're killing 2 birds with one stone, which is to under rank us while setting up a highly ranked opponent for Oklahoma to get credit for, ALA Fresno popping back into the polls over USF at near the end of last season that surprised!!! Ended up giving Alabama another ranked win to legitimize their schedule.

exactly.

i wish the "it's not where you start, it's where you finish" saying applied to college football because it is about where you start and that's the thumb they put on the scale to keep our teams down.

UNT was not snubbed. SBNation has them ranked 3rd in Cusa.

There may be a lot of truth to this. The more solid programs not in the P5 have to limb an impossible mountain every year. It's a scam imho.
