9 SEC Softball Teams Make the Super Regionals! Scores Here! - JRsec - 05-14-2018 09:40 PM

9 of the 13 will host at least a regional. A banner year for the SEC women is still underway. The Big 10 placed 4 schools and the ACC placed 2. Both the Big 12 and PAC exceeded the ACC and Big 10.

Which school is it in the SEC that does not play softball?

Vanderbilt. They have women's Bowling instead. Go figure. They won a national championship in it a few years back. Can you imagine a Vandy woman with a pack of cigarettes rolled up in her left sleeve a grease pencil over her right ear squinting through the bluegray haze of burnt tobacco and paper checking the spots on the floor before she tries to pick up a spare? It's got to be a Bud-Lite moment!

Is it because all 13 are really that good or because a few are really good and the others look good by association? Seriously asking. It’ll be disappointing if they don’t pull out a championship.

That's not it. It's because the bottom of the SEC would be the upper third in every conference but the Big 12 and PAC. The PAC placed 7 and has the overall #1 seed in a very good Oregon team. The Big 12 has Oklahoma who challenges pretty much every year for a WCWS slot, if not a championship.

The SEC should do well enough enough in the tourney. We might get 4 to the WCWS. But any of Florida, Georgia, Oregon, or Oklahoma could win it all. Florida State is pretty strong too and is seeded 6th. Just like with football the championship will likely come from the usual suspects and Washington shouldn't be counted out either and both Arizona schools are hosting regionals. So winning it all is anything but a foregone conclusion. Placing 4 in the WCWS is a good measuring stick on the season. If we have half of the final 8 it will have been a great year regardless of who wins it all.

On Championship Sunday for the Regionals the SEC won 10 games and lost 4. Compiling a record of 35 - 10 for the three days of tournaments. We send 9 teams to the Super Regionals. That's 1 more than half of all remaining entrants. We are guaranteed 2 schools minimum in the WCWS but we are also guaranteed that two of ours can't make it in. 4 of our teams will be playing each other for the right to go.

The Final 16 heading into the Super Regional Round will consist of 9 SEC schools, 5 PAC schools, 1 Big 12 school and 1 ACC school. There were no Big 10 schools to make the Round of 16, and no G5 schools. The PAC is guaranteed 1 WCWS slot because Arizona will be playing U.C.L.A. in the Super Regional Round.

The Kentucky win is pretty impressive. That's the #16 seed flying out to the West Coast and taking care of business. Very nice.

Bama loses 3-2 in 9 innings up at Washington.

Still a winnable series, but no margin for error at this point.

Well all of the action for our schools are over. The higher seed won every super regional. Going in the winning percentage on the road in this tournament was extremely low anyway. That stat was only solidified.

The SEC has two going to the CWS: Florida and Georgia who are bracketed to play each other in the first game in Oklahoma City. Florida State is the only ACC representative and Oklahoma the only Big 12 representative. The PAC placed their 4 top 8 seeds in and 3 of them will be in the same bracket (Arizona State, Washington, Oregon). Oklahoma will be in that bracket. U.C.L.A. will be in the bracket with the two SEC schools and Florida State.
