China agrees to cut US trade deficit by $200 B, have a trade truce - NoDak - 05-21-2018 11:30 AM

China agrees to cutting their US trade surplus by $200 B and agrees to a trade truce, ending a talk of a trade war. So that is what happens if a US administration has serious trade talks about getting a good deal for our exporters.

US Aerospace (Boeing), agriculture (mainly soybeans), and energy (LNG) should be major winners.

winning never tires....

The U.S. trade deficit with China was $375 billion in 2017, so coming down 200 Billion is about a 55% reduction!

If realized that is far better than I imagined he would get and will be good news for either our exports (if china imports more) or our domestic sales (if china exports less).

The real loser here is going to be the EU, because China will go after big ticket ites from Boing to make up those numbers and airbus will get left out in the lurch.

Hold your horses....

China hasn't agreed to reducing the trade deficit by $200 Billion yet...

Quote:After high-level talks Thursday and Friday in Washington, Beijing agreed in a joint statement with the U.S. to "substantially reduce" America's trade deficit with China, but did not commit to cut the gap by any specific amount. The Trump administration had sought to slash the deficit by $200 billion.

You do realize "at least 200B" is "not a specific amount".... Both things *can* be true.

Now will Trump get them to 200B? IDK, seems like a stretch, but he certainly doing better with them then Obama did..

Simply pointing out the OP is misleading.

Here is the problem that is being ignored. Yes we have a large trade deficit with China. But we also have a trade deficit with other places. Let's work to trim the China deficit, but at the same time let's work to turn around a lot of other deficits. China is by no means all of our deficit.

"The United States could make almost everything it needs. But some countries can make products just as well for a lower price. It makes more sense to pay less for these goods. The savings are then invested in the industries America does best.

For other products, America has an advantage. These are agricultural products and industrial supplies like organic chemicals. They also include capital goods like transistors, aircraft, motor vehicle parts, computers, and telecommunications equipment.

The United States runs a deficit with countries who fit at least one of the following three criteria.

1) They can produce things more cheaply than the United States can, such as consumer products or oil. That is changing with U.S. production of shale oil.

2) They don't need what America is good at making.

3) They trade a lot of everything with the United States, but America imports more than it exports.

Most of the trading partners that the United States has deficits with fall into the first two categories. The two largest are China and Japan. Some of the largest deficits are with countries in the last category. They include Canada, Mexico, and Germany."

With all of this winning, now I know how Hugh Hefner, Tom Brady, and Joe DiMaggio all felt....

Per the article, more than 65% of our deficit is with China.

and why is China and Japan the 1/2????

they are light years ahead of all foreign US debt ownership......oh yeah, they have quite the corporate presence in the 48 contiguous....

IMO, what is lost in translation is how we are not utilizing the leverage of the USD to narrow trade gaps and invest those monies into solid revitalization infrastructure policy.....

all I see is everybody winning with that method.....

people that are unwilling to work due to subsidization will have to pick up a shovel.....

more city/state taxes will be collected due to more employment and consumer spending....

inflation will remain in check due to increased competition....

blah ble blah ble blah ble blah.....

but nah....let's let the dickbrains from the urban centers control how policy is set.....that's the current state of donk land.....

this is the real beauty of the Donald.....he understands how fk'd up that is......and he's going to forge ahead no matter what the dipshites say.....he doesn't give a shite other than trying to discover 'best method'......that's how you turn a few million into a few billion in a handful of decades.....how people don't understand why that is the key is beyond me....

he's the 21st century robber barron that's become philanthropic......only the dipshite doesn't see that....this all about legacy for ALL the right reasons....

the only question remains is does follow through with the obvious.....

so far, he's hasn't dropped the ball on one thing he said he was going to do.......and he's done it picking the fight with every damn one of both sides and the msm.......that's unprecedented.....that's what too many of the 'political fagoos' cannot wrap that arms or brains around.....
