18-Year-Old Tells Texas Gov That Shooting Is About More Than Firearms - CrimsonPhantom - 05-21-2018 12:04 PM

Quote:Monica Bracknell, an 18-year-old who knew one of the teachers killed during the shooting at Santa Fe High School, told Gov. Greg Abbott (R-Texas) that the shooting is about school security, not gun laws.

The Associated Press (AP) reported Bracknell, who survived the shooting, seized the opportunity of meeting the governor to share her views on the issue of gun control.

“People are making this into a political issue,” she shared with the AP she told him. “It's not a political issue. It’s not a gun-law issue.”

According to the Wall Street Journal, she added that the recent high school shooting shows that there's a major problem with school safety, “It’s a, this-kid-was-able-to-get-into-the-school-very-easily, issue,” she said.

Exactly. we dont protect schools because we never envisioned them as a "target". We protect the judges and courtrooms with far more security. We protecty Capital Hill and congressional offices far more securely. Hell---banks and jewelry stores are more secure. Most big office buildings require key card entry and allow access via a single lobby with armed security present. Until we make securing schools a priority, these things will continue to happen.

It's like I've been saying.....we claim that our children are our most precious resource yet we send them to spend a significant portion of their childhood in buildings that have less security then the buildings we use to store our unused junk.
