I kind of get it - even though most of the fanbase hates it. He's making the team competitive in the AAC (which is far tougher than what C-USA was back then). He also is recruiting at a great clip.

He needs to deliver some bowl games now.

How could anyone hate it, dumb

I don't get it, either. If you wait until he turns the 8-4 corner it will be too late. He is fundamentally building Tulane recruiting. We are finally not entering every conference game at a severe talent disadvantage.

It looks like he's building something nice in New Orleans, but the West is a beast right now. Tulane has a very realistic shot at 3-1 OOC this year, which means he'd only need to go 3-5 in conference play to reach a bowl. Very doable.

I thought he was a home run hire for Tulane. He's going to keep making progress for sure.

It’s a smart move. Looking forward to the season.

At least Tulane is patient to have someone turn a program around. Many programs have 5 min attention spans.

I'd still trade Tulane for a ham sammich.

You call up Aresco and the league presidents. Let them know.

Breakout year... even in the tough West...

Now he can start sending recruiting letters to 7th graders.

Not sure anyone cares but when Paul Johnson Retires at Georgia Tech there will be a short list and Willie Fritz will be on it...
Jeff Monken
Ken N
Brian Bohanan
W. Fritz

They have all been mentioned many different times...

Not sure when Johnson intends to retire but he’s not *that* old (61 in August). If he winds up staying in as GT’s Head Coach for 5-6 more years, Tech will have an entirely different list in mind by ~2024.

Willie Fritz is not an adherent to the flexbone/wishbone scheme. His offense is a run-centric RPO. There is an enormous difference between a Paul Johnson, Todd Monken & Coach Ken scheme to what Willie Fritz runs. If Georgia Tech decides to continue running the bone scheme after Paul Johnson, Willie Fritz will not be on that list of potential candidates.

Fritz is rather old. He is not a solution for the future for GT.

Since when does Todd Monken run the flexbone? He's a Ok State spread guy, and as far as I can tell he has never been in that offense nor does he have any ties to Tech.

Jeff Monken, though, is of the Paul Johnson coaching tree.

I want to ask if the feeling around the GT fan base is that they WILL stick with the Johnson school? I have stopped being surprised when I hear GT fans (or others) say that PJ hasn't had success at GT -- he has -- or that GT should somehow expect MORE success.

I second all of this. Fritz is a hell of a coach and has done a tremendous job, imho.
