OT: ESPN likely to land UFC rights - Rube Dali - 05-23-2018 12:17 AM

For their linear channels. Assuming they also get the prelim rights to UFC's PPV events, it could mean that Saturday's during football season come 2019 will be different.

If that is the case, What will be shown on FoxSports 1 and 2.

Basically, that is all I watched on those channels except CFB.

the AAC TV rights are available soon, maybe they buy some content

this is a Win-Win for the AAC. and maybe the MWC. now you got potentially NBC, and now FOX looking for some live events

How about the games already on there with the Big 10 and Pac 12.

WWF?

I wouldn't be surprised at all if WWE NXT and other WWE filler programs made their way to FS1 and especially FS2

The UFC deal is another indicator that sports rights fees are still going up. UFC is actually drawing significantly lower ratings compared to when they signed their current deal with Fox in 2011, yet their rights fees still went up 150%. Even with cable subscriber losses, ESPN will continue to pay for product that it wants, albeit providing streaming content for ESPN+ will become more and more of a driver.

Hmmm...I wasn’t expecting Fox to bid on AAC (or MWC) but now maybe they will. Fox has the Big East, Big 10, Big 12 and PAC country covered. They reach every single part of the country except the South and a few small western states like Nevada, New Mexico, Hawaii, Idaho and Wyoming. They could use content there and specifically Florida, North Carolina, Louisiana, and Tennessee. Interesting...very interesting.

I really think this is a big WIN for FS1. I think they're now going to develop a much more normal sports schedule than they have in the past for FS1. I really think still there were a ton of folks that looked at UFC and it was an immediate turn off.

I’m one of them. I love college wrestling. I love boxing. But for whatever reason I just can’t get interested in UFC. I’ve been trying for 20 years. I may not be alone on this?

FOX just cleared a ton of programming space off with the UFC. UFC was a pretty good property but the ratings have dropped pretty good. I think WWE is the better long term investment for FOX.

Don't see this affecting College football slots. At least not in the South or Midwest

Clears the prime time out on FS1. It affects the Big Ten, Big 12 and PAC-12 games out.

it'll be interesting. Big Ten probably won't be impacted too much because Fox only gets about 27 games and 15 of them were on Big Fox last year. I'd be pretty certain that was in the contract. Only 12 were on FS1. Of those 12, 1 was season opening Friday, 1 was Thanksgiving Friday, and 2 others were on normal Friday nights. Might impact Big 12 and Pac 12 a bit.

Ahh, I see the point now. Thought we were talking about UFC bumping college football from primetime spots on ESPN. Carry on then.

I lived in Florida for 40+ years. AAC, SEC, ACC are more interesting, though I was always interested in the BSU games (did not like watching their home games}.

RE: OT: ESPN likely to land UFC rights - Hokie Mark - 05-24-2018 07:00 AM

From ESPN Release:

UFC on ESPN
Fight Nights Platform # of Events
UFC on ESPN+ Fight Night ESPN+ 20
UFC on ESPN Fight Night * ESPN networks 10
UFC PPV Preliminary Fights ESPN networks 12

* Prelims for UFC on ESPN Fight Night will be streamed live on ESPN+

It looks like they bought these rights primarily as a way to sell ESPN+?

I suspect the UFC fan is a person who has few qualms about shelling out $50 a year for UFC content.

I wonder what FS1 will do to fill the void of not having the UFC
