Some Observations:

ACC teams ranked 1-5 are no surprise as they have the best national names.... The bottom four BC to UVA again are not that surprising...

The surprising part is that DUKE leads the middle of the pack... It will be interesting to see if CPJ and CNW can bring Georgia TECH back to the 41 win five year record that GT had from 2008-2012...Or if CPJ's 2 losings season in the last 3 are a sign of the times for GT as the ACC football teams are getting better.

Time will tell..

Louisville needs an asterisk in the rankings because they were only in ACC for 4 of those 5 seasons. The season they were NOT part of the ACC was their best of the 5.

I'm certainly glad that Johnson turned Duke down to go to Ga. Tech. We ended up with a much better coach.

I'm surprised VT still made the top 5 with 3 of our worst years in the last 25 represented in that range.

RE: Ranking ACC Teams - 5 year Record - MKPitt - 06-21-2018 10:53 PM

I think conference record is more indicative of success because certain teams have much easier non conference schedules.

1. Clemson 35-5
2. Florida State 30-10
3. Louisville 21-11
4. Miami 25-15
5. Virginia Tech 23-17
6. North Carolina 22-18
7. Pitt 21-19
8. Georgia Tech 20-20
9. Duke 19-21
10. NC State 15-25
11. Boston College 14-26
12. Syracuse 11-29
13. Wake Forest 11-29
14. Virginia 10-30

As expected Duke’s overall record is somewhat inflated due to their paper soft non conference schedules. NC State surprised me though with how bad their conference record has been.

RE: Ranking ACC Teams - 5 year Record - TerryD - 06-22-2018 07:12 AM

Just for comparison, Notre Dame's record the past five years is 41-23.

2013---9-4

2014--8-5

2015--10-3

2016--4-8

2017--10-3

That 4-8 turd surrounded by two 10-3 seasons sticks out for me.

Notre Dame's ACC record?

I think it's 13-8. If you only count from the point when they started playing 5 games a year, 13-7.

RE: Ranking ACC Teams - 5 year Record - ren.hoek - 06-22-2018 10:02 AM

Let's make it the ACC record of the past 4 years since Louisville has only been in the ACC that long...

1. Clemson 28-4
2. Florida State 22-10
3. Louisville 21-11
4. Miami 20-12
5. Virginia Tech 18-14
6. North Carolina 18-14
7. Pitt 18-14
8. Georgia Tech 15-17
9. NC State 15-17
10. Duke 13-19
11. Boston College 10-22
12. Virginia 10-22
13. Wake Forest 9-23
14. Syracuse 7-25

Georgia Tech is Holding done the Eight spot in all these... Maybe an 8 win season is up for us in 2018!

FSU..........165-43 (.793)
Clemson... 133-75 (.639)
Ga Tech.....117-91 (.563)
UNC..........106-102 (.510)
UVa..........101-107 (.486)
NC State... 94-114 (.452)
Wake.........67-141 (.322)
Duke.........44-164 (.212)

No, but they will print it on Sesame seeds.

I think this speaks volumes about priorities. Considering Georgia Tech was an addition in '78 and Clemson really stepped it up because of the F.S.U. pressure it speaks even more loudly when you consider the rest.

This is true, but Louisville DID destroy Miami in the Russell Athletic Bowl, 36 to 9. And the Cards followed that up with a 31 - 13 win in the season opener against Miami the next year.

Correct. Three of those seven losses came in that 2016 turd year.

I knew the Irish were an ACC team, and should have been included in the original list.

Since conference play is a zero sum game, in which there is both a winner and a loser every time, one has to ask whether the ACC would be better off if its best team had 40 fewer conference wins and its weakest had 40 fewer losses.
