RE: Newly Elected San Francisco Mayor: ‘There’s More Feces … Than I’ve Ever Seen’ - umbluegray - 07-16-2018 11:22 AM I read an article a few years ago about housing for homeless in the Bay area. A large building which was once a GE office had been turned in to public housing for the employed homeless. The article spoke to a few people, but I remember one family specifically. The husband was an IT worker and the wife was a nurse. On their combined income they could not afford housing and had to live in a public housing facility. Now, as far as the newly elected mayor asking the mentally ill and drug addicted homeless people to be responsible where they -- uh -- relieve themselves... That will fix it. San Fran has become a middle ages look a like where feces and disease were very common. Quote:Ellen Tara James-Penney, a 54-year-old lecturer at San Jose State University, parks her old Volvo at one of those safe haven churches, Grace Baptist Church, and eats in its dining hall. She is paid $28,000 a year to teach four English classes and is carrying $143,000 in student debt after earning two degrees. It seems like James-Penney made very poor academic and career decisions. When you get down to the $2K per month range, you are talking about a studio apartment, which typically has around 300 square feet. Thats about the size of a typical master bedroom in a typical house. The other issue is finding an apartment close enough to work to cut down on transportation costs. If yo uare a couple, expect to pay about $4K for an apartment in SF.
