Varvel: How I went from a Trump critic to a Trump supporter - usmbacker - 07-16-2018 10:06 AM

He is not alone....Many Never Trumpers see Trump for the great job he is doing.

Quote:[....]So how in the world did Trump change my mind? He started keeping those promises.

First, he picked Mike Pence as his running mate. As I’ve written before, I’ve known Pence for over 20 years and he has the conservative bona fides. So, of course, I supported this decision.

Then, after taking office, Trump began to reverse President Barack Obama's executive orders and burdensome regulations on businesses. He approved the Keystone XL pipeline. He cut taxes and the economy picked up steam. Again, I supported these decisions.

Sure, he failed to repeal Obamacare but its individual mandate was repealed in the tax-cut bill.

As a Christian, I have been accused of hypocrisy and my faith has been questioned for not condemning Trump's past extramarital affairs, his language and treatment of women. Look, I know he is a deeply flawed man. So am I. The Bible says we all are. But evangelicals believe in grace and forgiveness and are commanded to pray for our leaders. So I support him in prayer.

Trump has proven to be pro-religious liberty, pro-life and pro-Israel. He moved the American embassy to Jerusalem, pulled out of the Paris climate accord and the Trans-Pacific Partnership and began negotiations to denuclearize North Korea. I support all of these policies.

There have been a few hiccups. Trump signed a budget bill that increased the national debt, which is now over $21 trillion. The Russia probe is still a cloud over his administration and I don't like trade wars.

But here’s the dominating reason I’ve changed my mind about Trump's ability to lead: judges. I support his picks of Justice Neil Gorsuch, his new U.S. Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh and the host of conservative federal judges that Trump has gotten confirmed.

I shudder to think of the activist judges that a President Hillary Clinton would have picked.

In my opinion, Trump has had the most successful 18 months as president than any other I've ever drawn. So yes, I support his presidency.

I admit that I was wrong about Trump. He's not a clown. He's a businessman, entertainer and now the president that I didn't want but now think we need.

I'd be one of them. I voted for Gary Johnson. Couldn't bring myself to vote for Trump because I thought he seemed a bit unhinged and wasn't convinced he'd govern as a Republican.

I'm man enough to admit I was wrong. Aside from the tariffs (which is another discussion), I've been almost in 100% agreement with what he's done and said. From the SCOTUS to calling out cFNN (Fake News Network) to publicly shaming our "allies" to taking to twitter to give the proverbial finger to the left, he's been great. A breath of fresh air our side desperately needed.

He's got my support and more importantly, my VOTE in 2020.

This Gary Varvel must be a Russian bot.

I'll vote for Bill Weld (hopefully Johnson moves on to other things) or whomever the Libertarians throw out there for the third election in a row. The two big parties are too corrupt. Trump's done pretty much what I expected, which is talk big, repeal some Obama stuff, and work on the economy. Government spending is still out of control though. If he works on that next year, I MIGHT be swayed, but I think with how things are going he'll win without my vote. Especially if the Democrats can't decide how far left they are.

Well, two out of three new #Walkaways ain't bad.

As far as government spending, Oblunder doubled the national debt all by his lonesome. Before him up to the Bush administration we had so and so amount and yet Oblunder in either years doubled that. I guess you could call that accomplishment. I just wonder if those people that got free cell phones still have them.

Couldn't agree more.

The problem is that we'll NEVER address out of control spending until we reform entitlements and welfare.

You can freeze all other spending, but it won't amount to a hill of beans with out addressing entitlements and welfare.

Doesn't matter who's in power......

We need Soylent Green. LOL

I'm not that old yet but if I was I'd probably wouldn't taste good and you'd get gas to boot. Ha, ha, ha. Even I thought that was funny.
