Could our new contract prompt our expansion? - jaredf29 - 07-29-2018 08:08 PM

Not likely but it’s the off season. What are our 2 top choices?

RE: Could our new contract prompt our expansion? - Chappy - 07-29-2018 08:19 PM

BYU and Army/VCU or
BYU and Boise State or
BYU and SDSU or
Boise State and SDSU

Memphis moves East in most of these.

Edit - bottom three would be FB only I assume.

BYU (all sports) and Army (w/ VCU non-football)
BYU (all sports) and Air Force (w/ VCU non-football)
Air Force and Army (Basketball stays at 12)

Anyone else can kick rocks.

First choice: BYU for all-sports, plus either Army or Air Force as football-only. So under that scenario, football goes to 14 and hoops goes to 13.

Second choice: Army and Air Force: both football-only. Football goes to 14, hoops stays at 12.

AAC is just fine the way it is, what we are waiting for is a football school to become the flagship of our conference, could be one or two or three schools
I think it will be:
1)
Houston... of course...
2)_____
3)_____

There are really only 3 options that move the needle (aside from Boise who poured gas on that bridge). Those are

BYU
Army
Air Force

No one else would increase the value of the TV deal aside from those 3. So if you can get 2 of those 3 expand tomorrow, otherwise we are good as is.

(1) BYU, SDSU, Boise State, Fresno State (all sports)
(2) Gonzaga (Olympic only, if #1 were to occur)
(3) Colorado State (all sports) and Air Force (FB only)
(4) VCU (Olympic only)

Should have read the question better:

BYU and Air Force are the top two. BYU can go for all sports or FB only; AFA would be FB only.

There won't be any expansion... 14 football mouths is too many to feed.

conf beef themselfies up for new contracts
either thru expansion, 9 conf games, sch foremat
right now AAC has added Witchta St & couple Navy games

VCU & St Lious would work for olympic sports only
alliance with Mass would cost 2m
that would get thier FB [they sch very well]
get some 1AA games of the sch & some tier 3 BB

If I am forced to choose, BYU and Army FB only (if that improves the contract). Both have their Olys in other conferences so little disruption for the original 12 and for them.

Otherwise, keep the 12/13 we have.

No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No.

I’d take BYU and Boise (football only) in a minute so long as the contract increases proportionately. That should pretty much guarantee the NY 6 Bowl for our champ. Also, should get us a couple of new bowl games. Navy to the East.

I think we should stay at 12, but just to play along....

What about Southern Miss? Many of us played them in CUSA. They have shown they can have quality football. And with the money increase and tv exposure they should get back up to par with most AAC teams.

Our benefit from it would be exposure deeper into SEC recruiting grounds.

The decisions are all about adding media rights value for the next contract. I doubt S Miss does that and you'd be propping up a 'start-up'. Nice histories but not enough 'juice' in my opinion.

I think it will be the opposite. We will lose teams because the contract is coming up. Networks will advise the bigger conferences to poach 2 teams. With the destabilization the contract neogiation will be hurt and the AAC will get another bad deal.

The moves we made going into the new contract, buttressing our inventory:

1. Surviving a potential Big 12 raid
2. Adding Wichita St
3. Securing the Navy-ND game plus additional Navy home games.

There will be no other moves. We are standing pat.

...but which AAC teams, and which conference(s)?

I just don't see it (another raid) this soon after the Big XII fiasco.

You'll get a nice bump, you'll think about adding Army and Air Force, but in the end you'll stand pat.

I don't think so this time. It will cost networks 60 to 70 mil per year to poach 2 teams, That is 5 to 7 mil per team of the price of a new AAC contract.
The Networks would get more bang to the buck to add another 1 to 2 mil per team and elevate the value of all the teams involved. There is a reason ESPN ponied up to block the B12, 2 years ago.

RE: Could our new contract prompt our expansion? - KNIGHTTIME - 07-30-2018 07:35 AM

Outside of BYU coming I'm not interested. If we are talking Olympic sports I would take St Louis and VCU to expand into new markets.
