McMurphys Bowl Projections - Attackcoog - 11-06-2018 02:11 PM

This is why bowl projections are kind of a joke. I think they often rush through them---especially the G5 portion. He has 7-win Houston sitting at home--while noting that Army will have to take the American slot in the Frisco Bowl cuz we dont have a team to fill it. In a related note, according to McMurphy's projections, Army will have an extremely hectic bowl season as they will have just 2 days after the Frisco Bowl to get themselves ready to face SMU in the First Responder Bowl. Fortunately for Army, both are located in the Dallas/Ft Worth metroplex--so they wont have to work in the dreaded "travel day".

According to the McMurphy projection, Ohio is not as lucky as Army and will need to travel to Dallas on the 20th for the Frisco Bowl after playing in the Cameillia Bowl on Dec 15th. 03-banghead

He must be mistaken...I did not find ECU on the list, and Scottie Mo promised me a bowl game this year.

Try again Mr. McMurphy, try AGAIN!

ooooh...

I'd LOVE to play Dook again.

He has us dropping Frisco Bowl but keeping Cure Bowl if/when we come up short of teams? Eh. Meh. Saturday better than a pre-Christmas Wednesday? Probably.

And while I'm picking at nits...if the Semifinals are Cotton and Orange, shouldn't contracted #2 Clemson go Orange? Especially when #1 Alabama is actually 200 miles closer to the Cotton?

UCF vs Kentucky in the Fiesta Bowl would be fun. I like our chances of winning that one and getting another SEC scalp. Attendance would be awful though. Maybe Kentucky football fans would show up given it's their first major bowl in a long time.

Would rather play Ohio State. But if Michigan is in the playoffs, Ohio State will be in the Rose Bowl

Ha, those Berkeley cats in Birmingham would be a culture shock. Love to play Cal though.

Seen a lot of projections with us facing Kentucky in the Fiesta. I guess it would be a favorable matchup, but not really an exciting one. Win 25 games in a row and get rewarded with.... Kentucky. :(

Unfortunately, there's not a lot of wiggle room. Alabama is a lock for the Playoff at the point, with Georgia almost certainly getting a NY6 bowl. LSU and Kentucky have fairly light games the rest of the way, and we could easily see each end up at 10-2. Kentucky being the least-desirable option would push them to the Fiesta to play a G5 team. UCF doesn't have any margin for error. Houston (and the West overall) is out of the running, and I'm not sure a 12-1 Cincinnati team could make up enough ground on 12-1 Fresno or Utah St.

Of course, there's still a ton of football to be played.

Pretty sure they give the #1 seed their "natural preference." And I'm pretty sure everybody's natural preference would be to play in Miami instead of Dallas in winter.

Miami vs. USF in Raymond James Stadium (with USF potentially on a 5 game losing streak) would probably be a decent draw...

Please tell me someone has tweeted at Brett McMurphy about these ridiculous mistakes! I mean, if you're going to write something that's going to be in print, for God's sake do some freaking research.

Agreed! Minus a Peach or Fiesta invite, lets get basketball started.

From a couple years ago (seems like the CFP dumbs down their website every year):
When assigning teams to the two sites, the selection committee will place the top two seeds at the most advantageous sites, weighing criteria such as convenience of travel for its fans, home-crowd advantage or disadvantage and general familiarity with the host city and its stadium. Preference will go to the No. 1 seed.

Assuming Bama is the #1 seed, I could make the case for Cotton over Orange.

My favorite one is Temple in the Frisco Bowl because the AAC will not have enough teams to send to the game. There's one little problem with that scenario. Wonder what it is?[Image: 762bb211c2bf4b0cba94203c6ddac321.jpg]

I hope we decline to participate. Support the basketball team instead.

This version is actually updated for week 10 (the one I originally posted with all the errors was for week nine). But you are right---he still has it messed up. Pretty sure Temple is still in the AAC.

lol...Not to mention---he's sending Temple 1000 miles to Frisco and Houston 1000 miles to Boca. I pretty sure anyone with any common sense knows those would probably be flipped so the each fan base has an easier distance to travel resulting in better attendance to both games.

We’ve accepted a SEC invite and are filling in for the American?

Really? Our seniors, many of whom would be putting on pads for the last time in their lives, shouldn't get to play in a bowl? $%#@ that.

The Big East, when Temple was in the conference, resurrected itself and Temple will represent Big East football.
