Wofford the 2nd SoCon private from South Carolina ranked this year (Furman). Season looking a lot like fellow in-state Winthrop from ‘07.

So if Greensboro pulls this off, we looking at a bid steal by SoCon? Two teams from this conference IN?

If UNCG wins they will have 29 wins in the 11th RPI ranked conference. Hardly a bid steal if Wofford gets in as well.

Agreed. SoCon, OVC, and A-Sun all have more than 1 worthy team. It’s a sham(e) they all won’t get the opportunity.

Incorrect. UNC-G not currently projected as an at-large.

Their rankings are not good enough. Here are the six rankings the committee looks at (AVG = 64):

NET = 57
KPI = 55
SOR = 30
BPI = 77
POM = 80
SAG = 87

These rankings would likely worsen with a loss to Wofford.

Thus UNCG steals a bid with a win, because Wofford is good enough for an at-large, thus taking an at-large away from someone else.

A Wofford loss still puts them in okay shape for an at-large. With their NET (and not likely to drop much given UNCG is not a bad loss), they might be the most eyed non-major for bid status. It’s not like Wofford has any great wins.

As the committee kept NET strongly considered during the top 4 seed line sneak preview, with the exception of every non-major taking a drop, Wofford, imo, poses the biggest test to NET. Right now, NET has them in the 4-line. You just KNOW that is not going to happen. So, what good is NET then?

Their metrics go up with a Q1 loss to Wofford, though obviously not as high as they would with a win. I don't think they get an at-large, but it's not completely out of the realm of possibility. They just had a quietly great season, overshadowed by Furman's start and Wofford's season-long excellence.

I don’t understand the idea that the NET was going to be the sole seeding system. This isn’t on you as I’ve seen many people say the same thing.

All the NET was supposed to do was take the place of the RPI. As with the RPI, the NET is just one metric that will be used in seeding. Wofford’s main negative is the number of Q4 games they have played.

Greensboro isn't getting in without a win, but if they win, Wofford will, so this would be a big bid steal.

Game tied at 55 with 3 minutes to go.

Wofford pulls away, wins 70-58. Their seed will be one of the most intriguing things to come out of the selection committee in some time. There's such a gap between their metrics and their eyeball reputation (as in lots of Q1 and Q2 wins but only South Carolina is a name win). My guess is they'll get an 9-10 and a lot of people will be angry.

Wofford wins. No bid thief.
