AAC basketball all conference teams announced - bearcatfan - 03-11-2019 12:05 PM

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The American Athletic Conference announced its men's basketball all-conference and all-freshman teams in advance of the 2019 Air Force Reserve American Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Championship, March 14-17 at FedExForum in Memphis, Tenn.

The all-conference and all-freshman teams feature three unanimous selections. It is the second time The American has had three unanimous all-league and all-freshman performers as the conference hit both marks in 2015-16.

Houston, which won the outright American Athletic Conference regular-season title on Sunday, boasts one of those unanimous selections in senior guard Corey Davis, Jr. He ranked second in conference scoring with 17.6 points per game as helped the Cougars to their first outright title since 1984.

Cincinnati junior guard Jarron Cumberland, who was chosen to both the Naismith Player of the Year Midseason Team and the Lute Olson Award Midseason Watch list, earns his third career American accolade. He made the all-rookie team in 2017 and was the Sixth Man of the Year that same season.

The American's leading scorer rounds out the trio of unanimous first-teamers. Memphis senior Jeremiah Martin averaged 19.7 points per game and upped in scoring in conference games to 23.2 points. Martin also set the single-game conference records with 43 points and 15 field goals on Feb. 20, vs. Tulane.

The first team is rounded out by two senior guards who helped their teams to first-round byes in this week's tournament. Temple's Shizz Alston, Jr., tied for the league lead with 19.7 points per game, ranked third with 4.8 assists per game and led the conference with a .907 free throw percentage. UCF's B.J. Taylor led the Knights to multiple wins against top-25 teams for the first time in program history. He finished in the top-11 in the conference in points (15.7), assists (3.7), free throw percentage (.760), assist-to-turnover ratio (2.1) and minutes played (34.4).

we started doing a 3rd team..which is great

i hope galen gets DPOY...even though it is likely going to tacko...would like him to get atleast 1 conference award before his career is over

Galen's defensive stats aren't very impressive. He wouldn't even finish in the Top 3.

brain gregory (usf head coach) already said he is voting for Galen

So POY will be Cumberland, Martin or Davis.
FOY will be Gardner, Yetna or Hinton.

Voting took place before Sunday's games, so Davis & Hinton won't have the benefit of their Cincy performances.

Then he's an idiot. Stats don't back it up. The only reason to vote for Galen is because you're voting for someone on the best team, not the best defender in the conference.

RE: AAC basketball all conference teams announced - HuskyU - 03-11-2019 12:33 PM

HuskyU Ballot:

POY: Martin
DPOY: Tacko
FOY: Gardner

outside of tacko (to avoid that debate), who is a better defender in the aac?

RE: AAC basketball all conference teams announced - CyberBull - 03-11-2019 12:36 PM

I get it....not enough room and quality kids are going to be left out, but USF's Michael Durr had a tremendous freshman season and really came on during the last 10 games. Especially without have a healthy Yetna.

You can start with the guy who tied with Tacko in blocked shots this year.

Galen is the best defender in this league by a mile.

The Award is Defensive Player of the Year, not Defender of the Year.

RE: AAC basketball all conference teams announced - Kronke - 03-11-2019 12:57 PM

Davis should win it, but it will be Cumberland.

Maybe something good will come out of that sham, i.e. a rule change where you don't vote until all the games are played.

no one tied with tacko in blocked shots...
im just going to assume you mean josh carlton who was 2nd

are we just going to ignore that teams are averaging over 70 on uconn

galen defenders the last 7 games:

jarrey foster 2-6
bj taylor 1-6
shawn williams (ecu) 1 of 3
rideau 0-9
cornish (tulane) 1-7
rotating of broome/bumberland/jenifer (depending on who was in)- they combined for 6-27

in the aac teams rely on guards to score and in the words of brian gregory, whichever guard he is covering isnt going to score and he completely takes them out

Galen Robinson is the best defensive player in this league by a mile and a half.

I do not think they should decide the all conference team until after the AAC Tourney.

And your counting is off too. You say last 7 games, but only list 6 opponents...

Too bad, because I'm fairly certain **I** would have won "Defender" of the Year. Bet me!
