Georgia Tech basketball in trouble now - stever20 - 03-15-2019 08:09 AM

This news came out last night-

I'm sure Memphis fans are just shocked that Pastner is in trouble.

With all the shoe stuff going on, guess Georgia Tech will have to get nailed to the wall again, like they did when the football player got $300 worth of clothes from an agent and paid him back.

So Ron Bell is trying again to get revenge on Pastner. Bell has been at this since the start of the 2017-18 season.

They haven't made the Tournament the last 9 seasons. They're not even cheating right.

Pastner is not in trouble - at least not for this. He may well be in trouble for not winning enough, but whether Tech has the stomach for paying severance to yet another fired basketball coach remains to be seen.

Well well well .... looks like a window to fire Pastner with cause and without a buyout has opened.

Oh look - Labarrie is involved. How much do you want to bet Paul Hewitt's ability to recruit above all others is related to his willingness to do things like this above all others? Labarrie was a nobody under Hewitt as a player. But it looks like Hewitt taught him how to play the game dirty. Ron Bell and Pastner implicated as well.

CLEAN HOUSE TODD. You just got handed a get out of jail free card for your basketball program. USE IT.

In related Pastner news, the original Ron Bell whistle blower and Ron Bell himself are going to jail. Not in Arizona, weirdly, but in Georgia (hello karma?).

As for OP's title ... depends on how the AD handles it. The Final Four is when coaching moves happen. The NCAA and its timing are of course utter horse****, but as far as the future of the program goes you couldn't ask for a better news story or time for it to leak out in terms of firing EVERYBODY and starting over. Without any outside intervention GT basketball was set, thanks to prohibitively high buyouts, on autopilot for the next two years: no great recruits, no offensive prowess, a knack for losing to mid-majors every single year, and a losing season every single year. That was going to happen the next 2 years no matter what unless somebody wrote a check for $4-6m to the GTAA earmarked "fire Pastner". Now it may be totally free to fire absolutely everybody. Given that GT just stopped paying Brian Gregory to not coach 18 months ago and Paul Hewitt to not coach this month .... that'd be like a Christmas miracle. You got to remove all three terrible coaches from payroll at an $8m discount.

Christmas in March for you guys?????

RE: Georgia Tech basketball in trouble now - georgia_tech_swagger - 03-15-2019 11:25 AM

Christmas in March. I'll take it if the AD is smart enough to make hay with it.

Jarret Jack was the star PG recruit under Paul Hewitt. Labarrie was a Cremins hangover that was largely a bench player. Keep in mind Paul Hewitt was recruiting a ludicrous wealth of talent to GT at this time. When GT nearly won the title, they did so with an incompetent-as-**** X's and O's coach in Paul Hewitt. Notoriously they couldn't even inbound or free throw. But because that team went literally 10 players deep with future NBA players, it just didn't matter. Now how did Paul Hewitt get these players to GT at the height of the Dave Braine "well this guy isn't Homer Rice at all!" slide into oblivion when facilities and everything else were falling behind?

Do the math man. While this is a great chance to get rid of Pastner for free ... make no mistake this stench has the unmistakable whiff of Paul Hewitt to it.

Any chance they self reported to try and make it easier to fire Pastner? Thats what UConn did with Ollie.

Who was the crazy couple that accused Josh Pastner of 3 way sexual acts and all that stuff?
