If our losses were on account of getting thumped by a "power league", SMU and Houston would be in the top 25 right now - or at least knocking on the door. That isn't the case. Do you think Illinois State jumped into the top 25 when they beat us? Or Evansville? Of course not.

So I ask the good fans of AAC schools again... what do you think has happened to my beloved "Final-Four-bound" Shockers?

This problem should concern everyone. Stop blowing off the question. We have brought more notoriety to this league in our first year than you've enjoyed since 2014. Now everybody in the media is like WTF?!

Defense
- you only have 1 top level defender on your team (zach brown) but he is too slow to guards points and 2s...any team that has a scoring guard that can move is having field day on wichita
- frankamp and reaves are borderline liabilities on defense but weirdly enough are the ones guarding the best players of opposing teams ..shamet is good on defense but he isnt shut down..you wont get an easy shot with him but you can get shot if you work on him, he isnt selling out on any ply..
- morris is slow. smu and houston ran picks to switch on him,and then shot the ball when morris was coming over as was too slow to get to there in time

not saying Wichita is a bad defensive team they have a good system defense with the pressure, double teams and full court press. they know ho to force teams into mistakes..but individually their isnt any shutdown player for Wichita not brown ....if there is a guard put on an island with the ball in his hand to win it (cant get help), i wouldn't feel comfortable with any Wichita guards to stop him

on offense
Wichita is an amazing passing team, with top level shooters ...but doesnt have a slasher or driver/cutter..they are making great passes from outside the 3 point line...there isnt anyone driving in and beating defenders and swinging it out

that is the difficulty of playing in a better league. when you play good teams your weaknesses come out more...the more good teams you play the more film there is of your weakness

normally when you pressure guards like houston did on wsu, a slasher or driver would blow by them (or create set play using picks to get them lanes to drives) either giving them open layup or draw other defenders to get other players open...

when we pressured wichita they either took bad shots or tried to force a pass, the risk of being punished and blown by isnt there

houston's point guard galen robinson is the exact opposite he is a very fast slasher who cant shoot, so teams give him a 10 yard cushion and never pressure him. they dont guard him till he gets in the paint and use whoever is guarding him as help for others because there is film that shows he wont punish you for that s he has no outside shot...

Even though your analysis is based on the game you watched in Houston, making it completely useless for my purposes, I'm going to give you full credit for attempting to analyze the issue instead of merely regurgitating the low-troll mantra of "it's cuz ur in a better league durrrh.."

And Rothstein made a comment like that because it's the nice thing to say when Wichita is so obviously shitting their own pants. I could find 19 comments from him contradicting that statement pre-pants-shitting-week for the Shockers.

Nobody... I repeat... nobody had us losing against SMU or Houston last week - including Vegas.

Ok, I've tried to be PC about this but you want the unvarnished truth? Here it is...

I've watched you play. Your team is soft and not physical enough to compete with the bigger, stronger, more athletic AAC teams. Your team gets punched in the mouth and they don't respond well. They also look like they've never seen a screen before and that is do to suck coaching. They tire easily (conditioning issue) and they get rattled and stay rattled (bad recruiting).

You will probably need a few recruiting cycles to catch up to the middle of the pack teams in terms of the talent gap I see. As for the ball screens, maybe JDIII or whatever you call him should read Coaching Basketball for Dummies. There may be some helpful tips in there for him.

Enjoy finishing 5th or 6th.

At this point if they finish within 20 at UC I will be really surprised. UC is going to wear these little guys down. Somebody said the other day, UC is like a body puncher. You don't really see the results until about the fifth round. Then it becomes obvious as the opposing boxer's legs are rubbery, his punch has no zip, and he's breathing heavy. This is what UC does to other teams. They take their legs away by physically beating them up and relentless waves of pressure. The first half is usually close but the second half UC pulls away as the other team has no legs and their heart has been ripped out.

Good God this thread. Nothing is wrong with Wichita State. They aren't as good on defense as many thought and they lost a couple of games against good teams. They are still capable of what we saw against Houston. I still think they'll go on another run and that they're a top 15 type team. Relax.
