That school up north and Wisconsin would kick up a big fuss about Cincy's academics, the Buckeyes would kick up a big fuss about a second Ohio school, everyone else would kick up a minor about Cincy not bringing very much extra money with the bulk of its footprint already inside the Big Ten footprint, nobody would talk in favor of Cincy, and that would be that for Cincy to the Big Ten.

1. Western division schools want to see that school up north and the Buckeyes in their home stadiums as often as possible to sell their season ticket books, MSU in the East means no locked MSU game with that school up north. As far as Purdue/Indiana, they don't mind Indiana visiting less often.

2. Its possible that the Spartans wanted the eastern exposure for recruiting.

3. Its not just the Spartans going East, its Purdue going West, and Purdue could have been calling in chips to go West. Playing Illinois/NW every year and playing in the state of Illinois every year is attractive to them.

4. If the Buckeyes are stuck with trying to sell tickets for one or two of Maryland, Rutgers and Indiana every year, between Purdue and MSU, they'd rather see the Spartans in their ticket book every second year.
