Think about the irony in all of this. With the Irish likely to continue to play USC, Navy, and Stanford on an annual basis and now will play Michigan State 4 times out of every 6 years into the 2030s, they basically have 4 set opponents.

It's those 5 games that come from a commissioner of a conference that actually give the Irish the variety that provides the illusion of independence, when in reality they are now semi-independent.

That's genius on Swarbrick's part to build basically a conference schedule while holding on to the illusion of independence for both the Irish fans and the casual college football fan who doesn't have the time to think about these things like we posters.

I have criticized Swarbrick for some things but the Irish deal was a masterstroke, maybe the biggest ever by any commissioner. Swarbrick now owns 45% of Notre Dame's schedule, the most valuable schedule in college sports. The deal was also surely the factor that clinched the GoR, which saved the conference.

In return, he gave away nothing but some shared bowl slots, which paid for itself because thanks to NDs involvement those ties will be better than they otherwise would! Likewise, it cost the ACC nothing to host NDs olympic sports, to the contrary the ACC will make money on that since those sports are more valuable than the average ACC teams olympic sports.

In short: the ND deal not just saved the ACC, it also gives the ACC about three million dollars more per school per year in media money, and provides tremendous exposure via 5 games vs ND each year, and it absolutely NO COST to the ACC!

I like the ACC deal with ND. Let me make that clear. I think it helped both parties which is the goal here.... I just hope that when the bowl selections come around, the ACC has to give up a bowl. That's the price they pay for a good deal and stability...... (and completely ruining the rwalignment board...lol
