The school has lost over $1,000,000 in ticket revenue (seats/ donations) and will get none of a possible $800,000 from the Grizzlies that's part of an attendance agreement. Tubby is costing them $5M (his salary + lost revenue) a year for 19 win seasons and not even making the NIT. Penny solves several problems:

- can work on the cheap while Tubby is paid his buyout money (school has 6 years to pay him off)
- instant top 5-10 recruiting class which Tubby would never get
- season tickets and attendance goes thru the roof

Its a matter of economics as much as it is lousy on court performance. Tubby should be cut loose as soon as Memphis loses in Orlando.
