Having Loyola-Chicago in Final Four will be the reason for low TV ratings...(and NOT because unlike recent Final Four's on CBS, this one is on cable, TBS...or its it TNT?).
Remember...it was the President of CBS that just said this week that TV ratings are DOWN...which will greatly hurt their ad rates for next year....hence why there might even be less "mid-majors" get at-large bids next year vs the few that got them this year...as the committee tried their best by inviting FIVE P5 teams that had LOSING conf records.
Except the last final with a Cinderella (Butler) was one of the highest rated finals in a decade. So anyone who knows a few basic facts knows it ain’t the Cinderella that’s the issue.
That was a final....this tournament with soooooooooooooooo many upsets in 2 brackets...CBS President was basically blaming all the Cinderellas for the drop in tv ratings.
Should be pretty easy to prove/disprove. All you should have to do is look at the ratings of the games with UMBC and Loyola Chicago vs. P5 games. By the definition K State was a Cinderella so I guess you’d have to throw the UK game out since KSU falls in both buckets.
I guarantee you the UVA-UMBC game had good ratings.
The UMBC/Kansas State game was the highest rated non CBS game in the first 2 rounds.
The only way a Non power league can get saved in this tournament is if Loyola actually wins the title. Simply because it hasn't happened before. There's a reason the Butler/Duke game had such high ratings. Fans want to see Cinderella play a blue blood.
