I thought Slater was much better defensively down the stretch. Not nearly as many screw-ups in the 2nd half of the year.

I put Colt in the same category as Powers and Powell. Decent enough against our usual schedule of snowbirds and directional schools, but will get hit hard when we play teams that are worth a damn in the postseason. Look at what happened against State in the regional.

I realize he made a few Friday starts for us in 2017, but he wasn’t the anchor of that staff. He had two Day 2 draft picks that pitched after him on Saturday and Sunday.

I think Carroll has the stuff to be a good pitcher. Seemed like most of his issues were mental and maybe just needs more reps this summer and fall.

I'd like to be optimistic about Smith but two things concern me: Will his arm be healthy enough to even pitch again? If so, will he be back to what he was before? I would bet his last time to throw a baseball has been a long time ago.

I liked what I saw from Weirich early on. Not really sure what happened there but we need some young talent to produce if we want to be successful.

I’m with you on Carroll. Think he has high upside.... if he returns to the team in 2019.

McCarty and Sandlin both improved their junior years after spending a summer in Cape Cod. Maybe Carroll can do the same?

C - Donaldson
1B - Slater
2B - Guidry
SS - Edwards (JuCo transfer, .347, 3 HR, 18 SB) or Storme Cooper
3B - McGillis
LF - Montenegro
CF - Franklin or Wallner
RF - Wallner or Blaylock
DH - Wallner or Blaylock

SP:
Friday - Powers
Saturday - Powell
Sunday/midweek - Carroll, Strickland, Colt Smith, Warren (JuCo transfer)

And a name I left off as a possible starter is Matt Wallner. Granted I don't know if that is a possibility but considering it worked for Sandlin last year there's a chance. Wallner isn't a Sandlin i realize but with some work he could become a viable option if needed.

I think they’re going to give Wallner a shot to crack the rotation. Sounds like they wanted to do that this year but he just didn’t have the reps in the fall and they were worried about his hip.

It’s gonna be really interesting to see if the USA team uses him on the mound. Pitching coach for the USA CNT is Brian O’Connor (UVA HC). That guy is a top 3 coach in college baseball. Maybe he can work his magic with Wallner. He could be our Brendan McKay.

Had TJ surgery last July, so figure he would be on a pitch count in the fall. Could be a middle relief or situational guy for us in 2019 but probably projects as a starter down the line.

have you ever met Drew.....he's a monster closer in my book...

nobody saw Colt this year......an off season at that age and your 'balls' might drop a bit more....

and TJ isn't as concerning as it once was....

let's not get to far ahead of ourselves.....

Colt and Drew are going to be very interesting how they are utilized moving forward....
