You're proposing the "rotating quads" format that was used by the WAC-16.
Of course I am. But these guys born after 1982 don't know what they were. So explaining it as half divisions and demonstrating a schedule is the only way to get them to see it. Telling them you are going to use the WAC rotation means nothing.
I would also add that now that divisions don’t matter we should just do away with them entirely and take the schools with the top two records. That way you avoid a potential 6-3 or 5-3 team winning the conference

No divisions, let the schools work out their own games within the conference for 1/2 or 1/3 of the schedule so we don't get mucked up with one school wanting three protected games, another wanting two and another wanting one so that someone either ends up not playing a game they want to play or get stuck playing someone they don't care about every year and let the league fill out the rest in consultation with television.
Take the top two to settle it.
