RE: James Madison: Where Do You Think They End Up?
In spite of Delaware's denials of any discussions of moving to FBS within the administration, apparently the UD Board of Trustees have had FBS discussions and specifically discussed the MAC.
Quote:UD Athletic Director Bernard Muir dismissed a report last week that Conference USA had made contact with Delaware in regard to its expansion. C-USA doesn’t fit geographically, but does have some schools Delaware wouldn’t mind being lumped with academically.
The closest, and most logical, FBS destination would be the Michigan- and Ohio-heavy Mid-American Conference, for which Massachusetts recently bolted CAA football.
I’m told that moving to the FBS has been discussed favorably among members of the UD board of trustees and other high-ranking officials. The MAC, which has an opening after Temple’s recent Big East move, may be the best landing spot.

Could UD do a UMASS and swing MAC football and A10 basketball bids?
Quote:But there are factors to consider, such as other sports. UMass is a football-only MAC member. Delaware would certainly prefer to keep all its sports in one league, but is this the time to change that approach?
About 20 years ago, Delaware rejected a bid to join the Atlantic 10 because, though it would have been a great fit in basketball, it wouldn’t have been as beneficial for its other sports. The overall athletic program was given precedent over a major sport.
