Modric is a great player and is very deserving of the award after having a great season with Real Madrid and World Cup with Croatia. He broke the streak of Messi and Ronaldo however in 2010 the Ballon D'Or should have been awarded to Iniesta or Xavi. I personally love the small creative\genius playmaking midfielders like Modric, Pirlo, Xavi, Riquelme, just to name a few. It's a shame that our country is obsessed with size and athleticism and too often ignores the smaller skilled creative players.

I've spent years of my life drunkenly watching Riquelme youtube videos at 2am. The balance and vision he had on the ball. Also, nothing like a Riquelme free kick.

Also, the fact Xavi never won the ballon d'or is an indictment on the entire award.
