To me what this series has to show is that it contribute to the lore as much if not more so than the Axanar fan film that it nixed. I haven't seen it yet but that might be because it leans too much on the JJverse style of Trek.

I can't defend Axanar since Alec Peters went and paid himself 41,000 dollars. At that point it was no longer a not for profit fan film and became a movie that was a threat to CBS/Paramount's copyright.

It's why I respect Star Trek Continues...they maintain their not for profit status and even sell adds for CBS and CBS All-Access to stay under CBS/Paramount's radar.
